Janet Berry
Janet Miller Berry, 88, of Chattanooga, departed this life Monday, March 31, 2008.
She was born in Walker County, Ga., to the late Lefty "Ches" and Mae Padgett Miller, and was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Hoover Berry; three brothers; and two sisters.
Janet was a member of Lookout Valley Lions Club, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her children, Jimmy Berry, of Ringgold, Ronald (Sylvia) Berry, of East Ridge, David (Barbara) Berry, of Chattanooga, Robert (Glenie) Berry, of East Ridge, Sharon (Kenneth) Wyrick, of Chickamauga; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008, in the Chapel with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating.
Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, West.
Family will receive friends from 2 until 8 p.m. today.

Mitchell Coplon
Mitchell A. Coplon, 48, died Saturday, March 29, 2008.
He was a business consultant.
Survivors include mother, Merna Coplon; brother, Mark Coplon, both of Chattanooga.
Funeral will be at Temple Israel, in Tulsa, Okla., at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3.

William Daniels Sr.
William Daniels Sr., 84, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008, in a local hospital.
He was a WWII Navy veteran. He retired from Holiday Inn and Moccasin Bend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Mae Daniels; son, Melvin Daniels; and loving friend, Elizabeth Pierce.
Survivors: son, William Daniels Jr., of Nashville; daughters, Gloria and Sherrell Daniels, both of Chattanooga; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; aunt, Maggie Twitty, of Detroit, Mich.; several cousins; other relatives and friends.
Graveside: Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Willie Paul officiating.
The body will lie in state today after noon at Taylor Funeral Home.
Andrew Davis
Andrew Lee "Drew" Davis, 20, of Hixson, died Thursday, March 27, 2008.
Drew loved video games, movies, family activities and loved to make people laugh.
He was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his grandfather, Thomas Reed Johnson; and grandmother, Adena Miller McDade.
He is survived by his two-month-old son, Gage Spencer Davis; parents, Laura (Kenneth) Cross and David Davis; siblings, Dustin and Devin Davis; grandparents, Linda Johnson, James and Mary Cross, Glen McDade, Cecil Davis and Johnny Barnett; stepsister, Heather Cross; stepbrothers, Sidney Cross, Andrew Cross and Quinton Cross; numerous aunts, uncle, cousins and friends.

Jack Douglas
Jack Sanders Douglas, 74, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.
A native and longtime resident of Nashville, Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked for 30 years as an x-ray technician at Vanderbilt Hospital.
He is survived by his mother, Beatrice McCrea; his sister, Sandra McCrea; her husband and sons, Don, Douglas and William Strickland.
Memorial services are to be announced.

John Elder
John Blount Elder departed this life Thursday, March 27, 2008, after a lengthy illness.
He was proceeded by parents, John G. Elder and Maude Arnold; brothers, Allie and Herschel Elder; son, John Jr.; and daughter, Lavada Elder Brown.
He was employed at Dickie Clay Pipe Co. until disabled.
Survivors include devoted wife, Mary; daughters, Johnnie and Alice; sons, Allie (Carolyn), William (Lee) and Villanueva Elder; devoted grandchildren; sisters-in-law and a host of other dear relatives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at noon in the chapel at John P. Franklin Funeral Home with the Rev. H.K. Lester officiating.
Interment will be at National Cemetery.

Katie Lou Evans, 94, of Chattanooga, died Saturday, March 29, 2008.

Jack Frost
Jack Allen Frost, 71, of Chattanooga, departed this life Monday, March 31, 2008.
He was born in Harriman, Tenn., to the late Rev. Jessie and Margaret Parks Frost, and was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Josephine Frost; three sisters and a brother.
He was a member of the Ileitis Colitis Foundation, Bass Masters, and was a past president of Knight of Pythias Lodge. Jack was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his children, Lisa Ervin, of Harrison, Christopher Goins, Chattanooga; siblings, Dot Gaylor, June Bales, both of Harriman, Edna Monday, of Grandview, Tenn., Roy Frost, of Harriman, Tenn., Larry Frost, of Kingston, Tenn., Kenneth Frost, of Lake Geneva, Wis., James Frost, of Oakridge, Tenn., grandson, Daniel Frost; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
Family will receive friends after 5 p.m. Wednesday, and prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Wynell Arnold Jackson, formerly of Chattanooga, died Saturday, March 29, 2008, after a brief illness in Amherst, N.Y.

Helen P. Jolley, 83, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008, peacefully surrounded by her family.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safety in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and proclaiming "Wow, what a ride!!!"Adieu, Live Life -- It's Totally worth it -- Mom!
Mrs. Jolley was a retired nurse from Erlanger hospital and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Jolley Sr.; and granddaughter, Vanessa Moore.
She is survived by her brother, Eugene Pongonis; sons, David Jolley, Joe Jolley Jr. and wife, Sandy, Paul Jolley and wife, Rhonda; daughter, Madeline Erwin; seven grandchildren, April Freel, Sarah Erwin, Jason Jolley, Rebecca Jolley, Jessica Jolley, Stephanie Armstrong and Jennifer Stevens; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Ledford Sr.; sister, Jessie Flatt; and grandson, Mitchell Todd Ledford Jr.
Survivors include daughter, Delores Cozzart; sons, Robert Ledford Jr., Timothy Ledford and Todd Ledford; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev Michael Ryan Lyndon officiating.

Wilbur Mahoney Jr.
Wilbur T. Mahoney Jr., 84, Chattanooga (affectionately known as "T"), passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at a local health care facility.
T served in World War II as crew chief aboard the B24-J Liberator bomber ("Delectable Doris") and flew 25 missions over Germany in service of his country. After the war, he worked for two years in Okinawa, Japan to establish an American presence in the Far East. He held a private Pilot's license and owned and operated Mahoney's Esso on Brainerd Road for many years. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Alhambra Shrine Temple, Temple Lodge 430 F&AM and the Brainerd Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Janet Au Mahoney; a son, Wilbur T. (Marge) Mahoney III, Lansing, Mich.; a daughter, Lynn (Gary) Ownsby, Chattanooga; two brothers, Bruce (Barbara) Mahoney, Signal Mountain and Albert (Josephine) Mahoney, Rossville; and three grandchildren, Kelly and Megan Mahoney, Lansing, Mich., and Dianna Ownsby Bender, Chattanooga.

Lily Mae McIntosh, 81, of Soddy-Daisy, formerly of Ashville N.C., passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008.
She was a wonderful Nanny for several families in the Ashville, N.C. area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Burgan and Emma Capps McIntosh; brother, Lloyd McIntosh; and sisters, Virginia Rhoades and O'Neal Miller.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Spivey; brother, Harold McIntosh; sister, Ruth Suttles; grandchildren, Gordon Hensley, Shelly Potter, Teresa Allen, Rocky Hollifield; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruby Schum
Ruby Stegall Schum, 90, died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at her daughter's home in Arabi, Crisp County, Ga., following a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry S. Schum, D. Min. in 2004; and her daughter, Mary Schum Cosby, of Chattanooga, in 1996.
A consummate preacher's wife, businesswoman, housewife and mother, they enjoyed ministries in Asheville, Charlotte, and Swannanoa, N.C.; Johnson City, and Chattanooga, Highland, Ky.; Atlanta and Macon, Ga.
Schum was born in Charlotte, Mecklenberg County, N.C., to G.W. "Dick" Stegall and Ethel Stegall on 4/6/1917. She graduated from Oakhurst High School in 1934, and was bookkeeper for Stegall & Son Construction Co. During World War II, she worked in Washington, D.C., with the Treasury Department and attended college there. She also attended Bob Jones College in Cleveland, Tenn. She worked at Ben Lippen Boys School in Asheville after her marriage, and during their years in Johnson City, she was office manager of National Book and National Sales Co. for Sam Moore. The company grew to become Nelson Publishers in Nashville. She was office manager for an orthopedic group in Asheville while they served at First Presbyterian Church in Swannanoa, N.C. In Chattanooga, she managed the child evangelism office for several years before they moved to Macon, Ga. She was the driving force behind Dr. Schum's Uncle Hank 30-year ministry on television, and assisted him in his ministry, and in planting 23 PCA Presbyterian churches in Georgia and Tennessee, which are self-supporting and thriving.
She is survived by her daughters Jane Schum, of Arabi, Ga., and Ruby Schum Craft, of Chattanooga; sons-in-law, Dr. F. Edward Craft and Gary Cosby, of Chattanooga; and two grandchildren, Isaac Craft, of Chattanooga, and Brian Henry Cosby and his wife, Ashley, of Moody, Ala.; and by one sister, Mrs. Mildred Garmon, of Tampa Fla.; and other members of the Stegall and the Schum families.
She is also survived by her spiritually adopted daughter, Jennie Wilson Salinas, a missionary serving in Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 3, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 8451 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, with interment at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, The Garden of Prayer. The services will reflect her life of boundless energy, creativity, and soul-winning and in the Lord's work.
Ministers officiating will be Dr. J. Render Caines, the Rev. Eric Mullinax, Dr. J.R. Faulkner, and Dr. F. Edward Craft with music by Todd Gaither.

Bill worked in car parts most of his life at the Buick dealership and Economy Honda for many years and was parts manager in Dalton for Pye Acura. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church since age nine.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Lee Tucker.

ROSSVILLE -- Helen Louise Gayler, 82, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008, surrounded by her family.
A native of Lenoir City, Tenn., she had spent most of her life in the north Georgia area and attended New Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Gayler was the manager of the Kream Kastle Restaurant in Ringgold for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gayler; children, Jimmy and Martha Gayler; grandsons, Timothy Williams and Shannon Carlock; and seven brothers.

Virgie Hughes
STEVENSON—Virgie Crownover Hughes, 92, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Chattanooga.
She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. She attended various congregations including Anderson, Midway and most recently Edgefield. She has also written articles for the Winchester Chronicle and the North Jackson Progress in Stevenson. She was a writer of poetry and traveled throughout the United States. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Boyd Hughes Sr.; parents, Jonathan Walker and Ada Lehr Crownover; children, Paul Boyd Hughes Jr., Nancy Hughes Andes, Elizabeth Hughes; grandchild, Velma Stevens; brother, Clyde Crownover.
She is survived by children, Juanita Hughes, of Chattanooga, Kenneth (Elaine) Hughes, of Winchester, Tenn., Bobby Hughes, of Stevenson, Emma Hughes (Robert) Aycock, of Birmingham, Ala., Douglas (Lynne) Hughes, of Chattanooga; 14 grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Bradford, of Nashville, Etta Hicks, of Dallas, Texas, Ann Turner, of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Mary Mobbs, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
The funeral will be Wednesday, April 2, at 2 p.m. CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Brother Frank Crownover.
Interment will be at Crownover Cemetry in Anderson, Tenn.
Visitation will be today 6-9 p.m. CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson.

FORT PAYNE -- Zula McKinney, 74, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2008, in DeKalb Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today CDT at W.T. Wilson Funeral chapel.
Burial will follow in Mount Herman Cemetery.
