Hardy Bailey Jr.
Hardy Wesley Bailey Jr., 66, of Charleston, Tenn., died Friday, April 11, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Bailey was an employee of Shaw Industries with 28 years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during VietNam.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hardy Wesley Bailey Sr.
Hardy was a great husband, dad and friend.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Rose A. Bailey; mother, Blanche Bailey, Indian Hill, N.C.; four daughters, Renee' Marsh, Cape Canaveral, Fla., Michelle Bailey, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jacqueline Schult, Chattanooga, Lisa Neeley, Goodyear, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Eric, Brittany and Autumn Schult, all of Chattanooga, Dustin, Ryan and Nicholas Blada, Goodyear, Ariz., Jeffrey and Tori Bailey, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the home of his daughter, Jacqueline Schult, with the Rev. Sterling Jetton officiating.

Glenn Millard Bazemore, 80, of Harrison, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 9, 2008.
He was a member of Harrison United Methodist Church.

Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.

Quinte Borkman
Quinte D. "Chingy" Borkman Jr., of Chattanooga, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008.
He was born Oct. 23, 2003, to the late Natasha Borkman and Qunite Borkman Sr. He attended Head Start at Avondale School.
Those left to reflect his life include father, Quinte Borkman Sr.; two grandmothers, Beulah Watkins and Deborah Watkins, of Chatanooga; Nanny, Annie Watkins of Decatur, Ala.; three aunts, Ramona Watkins and Rekita Watkins of Chattanooga and Telisa O'Neal, Decatur, Ala.; uncles, Jeffery Watkins, Alfred Wells, Eric Robinson, Kenneth Robinson and Curtis Robinson, of Chattanooga; godmothers, Jamie Bouz, Chattanooga and Johnetta Robinson, Huntsville, Ala.; a host of cousins and friends; a special friend, Mother Mary Cole.

Gladys Chambers
Gladys Irene Gill Chambers, 88, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 9, 2008.
Mrs. Gladys Chambers was born July 31, 1919 and was a 70-year resident of Ooltewah. She passed at her son's home with friends and family by her side.
She was a longtime member of Ooltewah United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. She worked for 28 years in the Hamilton County School System.
Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by her husband, Swann Robert Chambers; mother, Ollie Mae Gill; father, John S. Gill; three brothers, Marvin Gill, Howard Gill; and twin brother Dallas Gill; and one sister, Catherine Mahan also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Chambers was survived in death by sons, Robert Jerry Chambers and Edward "Ralph" E. Stephens. She has one surviving brother, Coy R. Gill, of Ooltewah and three surviving sisters, Dorothy Durham, Lucy Griffin, Willa Dean Ellis, all of Cleveland, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. today, April 12, 2008, at Ooltewah United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Graves and the Rev. Amy Nutt officiating.
The body will lie in state at the church from noon-2 p.m. today.
Burial will follow in Fort Hill Cemetery, Cleveland. Nephews and close friends will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

William Davis
William C. Davis, 80, of West Caldwell, N.J., died after a long illness on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
Visitation will be at Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Ave, Roseland, N.J. on Saturday, April 26, from 1-3:30 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 3:30 p.m.
Born in Chattanooga to Emil and Katherine Davis, he lived in Livingston, N.J., for over 40 years before moving to West Caldwell in 1999.
A 1948 graduate of the University of Chattanooga, Mr. Davis also served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. and retired as a Chartered Life Underwriter in 2001 after 42 years of service. A past member of Rock Spring Club in West Orange, Mr. Davis also served as president of the Newark Jaycees and was a member of the Livingston Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his time as a manager in the Livingston American Little League Baseball program.
Mr. Davis shared 52 wonderful years with his loving wife, Louise, and was the proud father of four sons, Scott Davis and wife, Lori, of Winchester, Mass., the late Timothy Davis and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Patrick, of Cranberry, Pa., Doug Davis and wife, Missy, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Rob Davis and partner, Alan Hilowitz, of Seattle, Wash. Mr. Davis was the brother of the late Edward Davis, of Signal Mountain. He also is survived by sister, Elizabeth Coulter, of Signal Mountain, sister, Emily Ann Greenwood and husband, David, of Walpole, Mass., and twin brother, James Davis and wife, Nancy, of Signal Mountain. He was the brother-in-law of Catherine McCarraher and husband, Bruce, of Hot Springs Village, Ark. Mr. Davis had four wonderful grandchildren, Chris and Jeff Davis, of Winchester, Mass., and Matt and Mark Davis, of Cranberry, Pa.

Pamela Sue Pike Doucette, 53, of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur R. Doucette; father, Revell Pike; two daughters, Kelly Doucette and Holly Doucette, all of Chattanooga; brother, Wade Pike, Cornelia, Ga.; sister, Patricia Southard, Roswell, Ga.

Randolph Dugger
Randy Dugger, 88, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in a local health care facility.
Randy was predeceased in death by his parents, Roy and Minnie Dugger Sr. Randy was a retired pipefitter and welder, veteran of the U.S. Navy, member of the Mason-Masonic Lodge and of the Baptist faith.
Randy is survived by his wife, Glenda Dugger, of Chattanooga; and two daughters, Patty Long and Tommie Blancett, both of Chattanooga. Also nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Chapel Service at Bryan Funeral Home will be today, April 12, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Dwight Martin officiating.
Burial will be Monday, April 14, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at National Cemetery with military honors.

Gladys Grover
Gladys Grover, 96, of Alexian Village, Signal Mountain, formerly of Manchester, Conn., died peacefully Wednesday, April 9, 2008.
She was the widow of Elmer J. Grover and was preceeded in death by two sons, G. Robert Grover; and infant, Gerard Grover as well as her great-grandson, Pierce Holleran Grover.
Born in Lawrence, Mass., in 1911, she was a graduate of Boston University, Sargent College in 1931 and the School of Education in 1932. After her retirement from the Hartford School System in 1974, she was a piano teacher with the Werner Studio in Manchester. She retired to Alexian Village in 1987.
Mrs. Grover is survived by three children and their spouses, Anne and Bernard Lyons, of Knoxville; Mary Denise and Peter Austin of Rocky Hill, Conn., and Stephen and Kathleen Grover, of Manchester, Conn.; sister-in-law, Arline Morrison, of Lexington, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in the Alexian Village Chapel on today, April 12, 2008, at 11:15 a.m.
In addition, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bridget Church in Manchester on Monday, April 14, 2008, at 11 a.m.
Burial will take place at St. James Cemetery in Manchester.

Robert Hoppe
Robert George "Bobby" Hoppe, died at his residence Monday, April 7, 2008.
Mr. Hoppe, a native of Chattanooga, had lived for the past seven years in Clarksville and returned recently to Chattanooga with his wife after she retired as president of Austin Peay State University.
An outstanding football player, he was Chattanooga's first High School All American. He went on to play at Auburn University, where he was All-Southeastern Conference and played on Auburn's 1957 national championship team. He earned a bachelor's degree from Auburn and a master's degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
He was a former teacher and head football coach in Georgia and also coached in Tennessee. In addition, he served as athletic and recreational director at two colleges.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert George Hoppe Sr. and Juanita Phillips Hoppe; and sisters, Doris Watson and Martha McKnight.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Sherry L. Hoppe, Chattanooga; son, Kevin Hoppe, daughter-in-law, Michelle and grandson, Ryan, Athens, Tenn.; sister, Joan Voiles, Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service in the Barth Room at the church.

Patty Ledford
Patty Johnson Ledford, 66, of Signal Mountain, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008.
A native Chattanoogan, she attended Missionary Ridge Elementary School, Girls Preparatory School, Chattanooga High School and graduated from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. She enjoyed several career opportunities working as a social worker for the Tennessee State Department of Welfare, a Headstart teacher, an American National Bank teller, and she retired last year from the Tennessee Valley Credit Union after 23 years of service.
She was a lifelong member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church, a member of the Morgan Sunday School Class and a devoted participant on church mission teams.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Margaret Morgan Johnson.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Wilson A. "Buddy" Ledford Jr.; son, Wilson A. "Trey" Ledford III, of New Orleans; daughter, Margaret M. Ledford (David) Radunsky, of Miami; sister, Gin (Tad) Johnston, of Lookout Mountain; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Wayland Dean Melton, 81, of East Ridge, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008 in a local hospital.
He was born Dec. 21, 1926. Wayland was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church in Rossville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and Korea. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a letter carrier.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin Melton, Bill Melton and Paris Melton; a sister, Mildred; mother, Magie Melton; and father, Beecher Melton.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Jodi Melton; sons, Anthony Richard Melton and wife, Melissa, of East Ridge, James Gregory Melton and wife, Jill, of Ringgold, Ga., Rodney David Melton, of San Diego, Calif., Wayland Dean Melton Jr., of San Diego; five grandchildren, Thomas Melton, Miranda Melton, Logan Melton, Shonna Melton, Nick Melton; one sister, Lorine Holtzclaw, of Dalton, Ga.

Mary Alice White
Mary Alice O'Neill White died peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Alexian Village.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1914, in Houston, Texas, the second child of William K. O'Neill and Ethel Rhoda Mansfield. Before her marriage to Harry Raymond White in 1937, she graduated from The School of the Brown County Ursulines and the University of Cincinnati. She moved from Cincinnati to Chattanooga with her family in 1947. While raising her three children and supporting her husband in his career, she contributed her time and talents to community organizations, in particular, Ladies of Charity, Chattanooga Opera Guild, Lookout Mountain Beautiful Garden Club, and Florence Crittenton Home. After her husband's death in 1992, she moved to Alexian Village Retirement Community, where she continued to serve others as a volunteer and regular visitor to residents in nursing care.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, William M. O'Neill.
She is survived by her children, Rose Anne White (Sister Roseanne, O.S.U.) of Cincinnati, Thomas William White and his wife, Monica Stephens White, of Houston, Texas, and Mary Ellen White Operchal and her husband, Dr. Thomas Operchal, of Marathon, Fla.; five grandchildren, Christopher T. White and his wife, Gisela, Irene Rose White, Harry E. White and his wife, Rebecca, Thomas W. White Jr., and Air Force Cadet 2nd Class David K. Operchal; and four great-grandchildren, Emma White, Thomas John White, Jude Benjamin White, and an expected baby girl.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Mary Alice's life on Monday, April 14, 2008, at the Alexian Village Chapel, Signal Mountain. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m.

Woodrow Nelson
ROSSVILLE -- Woodrow W. Nelson, 89, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at his residence.
A native of Haynesville, La., he had spent most of his life in the Chattanooga and Rossville areas and was a member of McFarland United Methodist Church. Mr. Nelson was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II and received many citations, including the Purple Heart. Following his service, he was employed with Bert Brown/Marshall Mize Ford as a mechanic and retired with 37 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sadie Robinson Nelson; son and daughter-in-law, Starlan and Cindy Nelson, of Van Buren, Ark.; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Terrence Murray, of Soddy-Daisy; grandchildren, Josh Walker, Lindsey Dockery, Emily and Elizabeth Nelson; great-grandchildren, Brayden Walker and Korbyn Dockery; one brother and two sisters also survive.

A native and lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and Chickamauga areas, she was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Joe Thomas Robinson; sisters, Laverne Pearson and Martha Jean Sutton; and brother, Robert Alvin Smith.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Alvin E. Robinson Sr.; daughter, Florence Elouise Robinson, Chickamauga; sons, Alvin E. Robinson Jr., East Ridge, Robert A. and Jeff Robinson, both of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Margaret E. Russell, Rossville, Nell L. Johnson, Hushton, Ga. and Phyllis L. Sneed, Rossville; brother, George E. Smith, Ringgold; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Private graveside services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
