Two Realtors say they are among the first in the nation to earn a real estate consulting designation.
Elwynn Schwartz and her daughter, Karen Riede, of Realty Executives, recently earned the Accredited Consultant in Real Estate designation. They said they are the only agents in Chattanooga with the designation and that fewer than 1 percent of agents nationwide hold the title.
Mrs. Schwartz said the ACRE designation gave them the knowledge to set up a real estate consulting service that they will offer in addition to traditional commission brokerage. Realty Executives is charging fees for performing different services in an a-lacarte style, Ms. Riede said.

“We wanted to start getting paid for our work like other professionals,” Mrs. Schwartz said.
The timing is especially good with high gas prices, Ms. Riede said, because Realtors often do a great deal of driving to listings and never get repaid.
The consulting firm, Chattanooga Real Estate Consultants, will charge its clients for performing specific services, from placing for-sale signs to doing a market analysis, she said. Fees will depend on the complexity of the service performed, she said.
The service is an alternative to clients who don’t want to pay a full commission but also don’t want to sell the home themselves, she said.
And Mrs. Schwartz said that since she and Ms. Riede will be paid for specific work they do, clients can be assured they are working in the clients’ best interest and not trying to make a quick sale to move on to the next deal.
