Georgia’s Sturdivant could be out for season

Georgia’s first scrimmage of August camp was marred by what could be a season-ending knee injury to starting left tackle Trinton Sturdivant.

The 6-foot-5, 293-pound sophomore started all 13 games last season, earning Freshman All-SEC and Freshman All-America honors. Bulldogs coach Mark Richt did not know the extent of the injury immediately following Monday’s scrimmage.

“It swelled up pretty good, and we’re taking the pictures, so we’ll see,” Richt said. “It’s just sad to see a guy get hurt.”

Sophomore Josh Davis (6-6, 293) worked the rest of the scrimmage as the first-team left tackle. Davis could stay as the starter, but Richt also could shift right tackle Kiante Tripp, left guard Vince Vance, right guard Cordy Glenn or right guard Clint Boling to the position that protects quarterback Matthew Stafford’s blind side.

Stafford was 11-of-21 Monday for 108 yards and one interception, while redshirt freshman Logan Gray was 12-of-22 for 119 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Tripp Chandler. Chandler made four catches for 31 yards, while freshman receiver A.J. Green had three for 28.

Redshirt freshman tailback Caleb King had 11 carries for 52 yards and two catches for 22 yards, while freshman Richard Samuel had 11 carries for 45 yards and three receptions for 26 yards. Freshman kicker Blair Walsh made all three of his field-goal attempts, while senior cornerback Ramarcus Brown led all tacklers with 10.

Monday’s scrimmage was closed, so statistics were provided by the coaching staff.
