Coppinger named new Hamilton County Commission chairman

Hamilton County commissioners unanimously selected Jim Coppinger as their new chairman this morning.

Mr. Coppinger, a Republican and a former Chattanooga fire chief, has been on the commission since he was elected in 2006.

Commissioners selected Democrat Warren Mackey as vice chairman.

Mr. Coppinger and Mr. Mackey each thanked the commission for the appointment. No other commissioners received nominations for the positions, though Commissioner Richard Casavant had earlier said he would seek the vice chairman’s seat.
