Balance screening
Erlanger and Siskin Hospital for Rehabilitation offer a screening to assess balance and stability from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 4 at Erlanger North Annex, Suite 200. The noninvasive evaluation, an excellent screening for seniors, helps determine if treatment for balance problems is needed. Registration is required. Call 778-5465.
Cancer

CPR for family, friends
CPR for Family and Friends, a class on the basic skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation for adults, children and infants, is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 4 at Memorial’s Health Place at Hixson. There is a $1.50 materials fee. To register call 495-7422.
Child safety, car seats

* A two-part basic diabetes class begins at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday and Sept. 10 at Memorial’s Diabetes and Nutrition Center. This overview of the disease covers prevention, treatment and complications. Smoking cessation
The first in a series of nine Breathe Free seminar sessions begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton Family YMCA, 7340 Shallowford Road. Breathe Free, a scientifically based program, has a 25-year success record with 15 million graduates. Program fees are $25, pre-registered, or $30 at time of the first session. Sports clinic

Stroke
Ultrasound technology is used to evaluate a person’s risk for stroke on Sept. 6 at McFarland United Methodist Church, 101 E. Gordon Ave., Rossville. Appointments begin at 9 a.m. Life Line evaluations take from 60 to 90 minutes each. The complete Wellness Package (five evaluations) now includes a heart-rhythm screening and costs $149. Walk for Cammy’s Cause
To help spread information about eating disorders, a walk in memory of Mary Cameron Robinson begins with registration at 9 a.m. Saturday at Tennessee Riverpark, 4301 Amnicola Highway. The walk of 2.88 miles begins at 10 a.m., and the cost is $25 per walker. The MCR Foundation, which is dedicated to the prevention of eating disorders, is sponsor for this event, which drew 600 walkers and raised $56,000 last year.
