Chattanooga: Man charged with DUI after evading police and crashing

A Chattanooga man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and evading police after a wreck at 39th Street and Dodds Avenue early this morning.

Police attempted to make a traffic stop on a tan Altima driven by 36-year-old Gregory Summerow when he drove away, said Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary in a news release. Mr. Summerow sped down Dodds Avenue where he lost control of his vehicle and hit two telephone poles, she said.

Poles at 38th and 39th Streets were completely wiped out as a result of the wreck but it is unknown if phone service in the area was interrupted, Sgt. Weary said. Mr. Summerow was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor cuts and abrasions sustained in the accident before being transported to the Hamilton County Jail.
