Zoese Brazell
Zoese Brazell, 83, of Chattanooga, passed Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, in a local hospital.
She was affiliated with Jehovah Witnesses and the Seventh-day Adventist Churches. She worked for the Card and Monroe families for over 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Brazell; and daughters, Doxie Omega Brazell.
Survivors include her daughter Gustinia (Murray) Stewart; nephews, Pastor Randall Camel, Donald Lounds, Jason Lounds, all of Chattanooga, Daryl Lounds, of Iraq, and Stefan Camel, Atlanta; nieces, Nicole Camel, Jasmine Lounds; great-nephew, Kobe Lounds; great-great-nieces, Jayla Lounds and Ni’Kayla Camel; and great-great-nephew, Jamante Jenkins.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Reuben Strickland Memorial Chapel with Pastor Cleveland Hobdy III officiating.
Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The body will lie in state after noon in the Chapel.
Mickey Carlisle
Kenneth Michael “Mickey” Carlisle, 56, of Sale Creek, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008.
Mickey was a longtime resident of the Soddy-Daisy area and of the Church of God faith. He enjoyed going to flea markets and fishing.
His sister, Carolyn Carlisle, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his son, Joshua Carlisle, of Hixson; daughters, Tammy Patterson, of Hixson, Carrie Thomas, of Sale Creek and Rebecca Smith, of Pikeville; parents, Charles and Betty Carlisle, of Soddy-Daisy; brother, Charles Robert Carlisle, of Forest Park, Ga., along with seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial will follow at Granny Walker Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday after 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Christine Carter
Christine Carter departed this life Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at a local health care facility.
She was a member of Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board. She was employed at the Chop house and also volunteered at the Community School.
Survivors include the staff and residents of the Davis Home; foster parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Morris W. Johnson and Shiloh members.
Services will be on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Morris W. Johnson officiating.
Interment in Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. at National Cemetery.

Victoria Cecil
Victoria Cecil, 78, received ultimate healing and peace and has passed on to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, August 28, 2008.
She was born in Pakistan and had lived in Chattanooga since 1987. She was a registered nurse and was greatly loved by all of the patients she touched in this profession. She was a member of Tyner United Methodist Church.
Victoria is survived by her husband, Gilbert Cecil; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jonathan and Nighat Cecil, David and Farah Cecil; and a daughter, Sheeba Pervez; seven grandchildren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Anoose Taj; and sisters-in-law, Mabel Mall and Martha Merrill. She was the eldest of five brothers and two sisters and leaves a large extended family in Pakistan and the United States.
Services will be held 11:30 a.m. today at the North Chapel with Dr. Robert Haskins and Pastor Younis Farthat officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Jerry Daniel Elliott, 67, a longtime resident of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008, in Lakeland, Fla.
He had been living in Florida for the past 17 years. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, former employee of Combustion Engineering Co. and was a member of Parkview Baptist Church in Lakeland.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Gray Elliott; three children, Craig Elliott and his wife, Kelley, of Cleveland, Tenn., Kristy Watson and her husband, Jim, and Sherry Zinkann and her husband, Eric, all of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren, Kelsey Elliott, Faith and Elijah Watson and Alexis Zinkann; one sister, Brenda Smith, of Kimberling, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist with the Rev. John Andrus officiating.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

William Stanley Kell, 54, of Utah, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008.
Preceded in death by mother, Ruby Kell.

Lois Mabry
Lois Mabry, 91, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008.
She and her husband, Rodney, were raised in Cartersville, Ga., and were married for 47 years before his death in 1987. They were boating enthusiasts and members of the Chattanooga Boating Club and Lakeshore Yacht Club. They were members of Brainerd United Methodist Church and the Wesley Caudel Sunday School Class where Lois was the pianist for many years. She taught elementary school for 37 years and retired in 1982 from Fort Oglethorpe Elementary.
Since 2002, Lois enjoyed knitting afghans for the patients of Hospice of Chattanooga and was honored in 2006 for having provided 105 afghans for the year 2005 alone.
Lois was also preceded in death by her only sister, Frankie Gilpin, of Newnan, Ga.
Survivors include her two daughters, Gerry (Jimmy) Chamberlain, of Chattanooga, and Jeanne (Jimmy) Moore, of Gulfport, Miss. “Nanny” was so much a part of the lives of her four granddaughters, Kim Narramore, of Chattanooga, Ashley (David) Myers, of Jersey City, N.J., Debbie O’Dwyer, of Miami Beach, Fla., and Becky Smart, of Birmingham, Ala.. Also to cherish her precious memories she leaves her five great-grandchildren, Chamberlain Iocovozzi, Niamh O’Dwyer, Lilli Narramore, Tyler and Jesse Smart.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Genevieve DeHoog officiating.
Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

John Moyers
John “Jakie” Moyers, 82, of Chattanooga, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at his residence after an extended illness with cancer.
Born and raised in Chattanooga his entire life, he was also a lifelong member of East Chattanooga Church of God where he was active up until his illness. He was retired from Chattanooga Boiler & Tank after 20 years of service and was the son of the late Aline and Thomas Moyers.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Ronald Moyers; two brothers, Arnold Moyers and Vernon Moyers; sister, Rozella (Kenneth) Roark.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Geraldine Moyers; daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Wendell Whitener, Ooltewah; three grandchildren, Andrew, Hollie and Winston; sister, Erma (DeWayne) Akins; various sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Moyers, Carolyn (Mike) Horton, LaVerne (Edna) Waller, Jimmy (Marie) Goggins, Jerry (Marlene) Goggins; and several nieces and nephews.

Jewel Portwood
Jewel Hill Portwood, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at a local hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Homer and Lula Hill and was preceded in death by her sister, Inez Pointon; and brother, Audey Hill.
Jewel began work as a registered nurse at Knoxville General Hospital and later worked for Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga. She retired as the assistant director of nursing with the Hamilton County Nursing Home.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene Portwood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Cindy Portwood, of Norman, Okla., Tim and Patrina Portwood, of Chattanooga; four grandchildren, Megan, Kayla, Haylie and Matthew.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

William Powell
William R. Powell, 88, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at his home.
He was a mighty man of God who served his Lord faithfully. Mr. Powell was loved and adored by his family and friends. He retired from Shearer Amusement Co.
He was preceded in death by his son, William R. Powell Jr.; daughter, Betty Hodges; sister, Mildred Bunch; and brother, Morris Weed.
Survivors include the love of his life, Betty Griffin and man’s best friend, his beloved “Rowdy”. He was the beloved father of sons: William Thames, of McRae, Ga., Richard Dixon, of Hixson, Michael Powell, of Chattanooga and Wayne Powell, of Chattanooga; honorable mention, Robert Kidwell; daughters, Billie McAlister, of Cleveland, Billie Mansel Stewart, of Millersville, Md., Linda Kidwell, of Chattanooga, Deborah White, of Stuart, Fla., Lisa Drummond, of Newnan, Ga.; 26 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Stubblefield; and a brother, Charles L. Roberts II.

She is survived by her children, Angela (David) Earvin, Kenneth (Amanda) Robinson, Emmett (Kathy) Robinson, Anna Robinson, Elisa (Dwight) Robinson, all of South Pittsburg and Richard (Shannon) Robinson, of Maui, Hawaii; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Chubb, of Chattanooga; brothers, James (Dorothy), Jimmy, Melvin (Patricia) Robinson, all of South Pittsburg, Robert (Maxine) Robinson, of Chicago, Ill.; special friends, Ann Edwards, Monroe Powers, Ashley Pickett, Ralph Edge and Frenchie; several nieces and nephews.

Gene Sholl
DAYTON — Gene Sholl passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, due to complications arising from injuries suffered in an automobile collision in September 2007.
Gene was born in Chattanooga, attended local schools and graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1959. He served in the Air National Guard being honorably discharged in 1964. He worked at Lovemans Department Store as a buyer for 10 years before taking a job with a St. Louis Company.
Gene began fulfilling a lifelong dream of higher education in 1990. He obtained a master’s degree in psychology at Lee University and received his Ph.D in 2005.
In recent years Gene has been employed by Bradley Cleveland Services working with adults with severe challenges. He loved his clients and they loved him and called him Granddaddy.
Gene is survived by his wife of 48 years, Glenda Halliburton Sholl, of Dayton; sons, Kevin Sholl, Shawn (Lesley) Sholl and Lance (Stacey) Sholl; daughter, Gina (Jeff) Osterbur; grandchildren, Alexis, Ben and Chase Sholl, Michael, Josh, Brandon and Kaitlyn Osterbur, all of Dayton. He is also survived by his mother, Marjorie Sholl; siblings, Rosie (Sholl) Kuka, Sheila Sholl, Harry Sholl and John Sholl, all of the Chattanooga area.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation c/o the funeral home.
Graveside services for Gene will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton.
