Michael Appling, 35, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, in a local hospital.

Harley "Gene" Buckner, 65, of Ooltewah, born March 13, 1943, died in a local hospital Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, after battling cancer and other illnesses for 14 years.
Retired in 1998 from McKee Baking Co. after 35 years of service, he was a member of Gamble Road Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his father and mother, Robert and Myrtle; sister, Connie Buckner.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Buckner; son, David (Elizabeth) Buckner; daughter, Gayle (Mike) Gossett; grandchildren, Brittany (Jason) Maynor, Nicholas Buckner, Fawnna Parker, Jesse, Summer, Manuela, Enrique and Albert; great-granddaughters, Makala and Abigail Maynor; brother, Colonel Buckner, of Tellico Plains, Tenn.; sisters, Sue Aaron, Dora Lee Newman, Barbara Wade, all of Etowah, Tenn., Linda Brogdon and Nora Nation, both of Apison, Helen Leamon, of Ooltewah; several nieces and nephews.
He was a very loved man and will be missed by everyone!
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gamble Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Josh Cornelius and the Rev. Ronnie Powell officiating.
The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. until funeral time.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-8 p.m. today.

Mildred Groggins, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, in a local health care facility.

Jean Harris
Jean Denman Harris, 80, of East Ridge, passed away Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, in a local health care facility.
She was born Sept. 6, 1928, in Ringgold, Ga.
She was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church and was a former Catoosa County school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Berlin Harris; brothers, Chapley, J.D. and Wallace Denman; and sister, Winnie Huggins.
Survivors include her children, Winston (Angie) Harris, of Jasper, Ga., Chris Harris, of East Ridge, Jane (Chris) Brock, of Kingston Springs, Tenn., Phil (Laura) Harris, of Ringgold, Ga.; sister, Judy Wiggins, of Ringgold; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at East Ridge Baptist Church with Dr. C. Henry Preston officiating.
Burial will be at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper, Ga., at 3 p.m. today.

Kathy Diane Hicks, 48, of Chattanooga, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, in a local hospital.
Kathy was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church and later Silver Creek Baptist. She was graduate of Kirkman Technical High School.
Survivors include her parents, C.D. and Mary Ann Mathis; two sons, Josh Cannon, Chattanooga, Jeremiah Edward Hicks; daughter, Charity Hicks, both of Marcellus, Mich.; three brothers, Chuck Mathis, Jimmy Mathis, both of Red Bank, Tommy Lee Mathis, Chattanooga; sister, Wanda Bennudriti, Hixson; two grandchildren, Cameron and Saylor Raine Cannon, both of Chattanooga.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bobby Webb officiating.
Interment will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park with nephews and cousin serving as pallbearers.

Charles Edwin Jones, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post 95.

Harry M. Kimbro, 79, of Chattanooga, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008.
He was an independent agent with State Farm in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for over 40 years.

Richard Landfried
Richard L. Landfried, 83, of Hixson, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, in a local health care facility.
He was born May 10, 1925, in Greenville, Pa., to the late Frances and Carl Landfried.
He was retired from the Loraine Division of Koehring after more than 25 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and attended St. Alban's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jeanne Landfried; one son, Eric (Tanya) Landfried; grandchildren, Logan and Abby Landfried, all of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; one sister, Jeanne Chandler, of Greenville.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the North Chapel.
Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Armando Olivas
Armando Olivas, 81, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008.
Armando was born on Dec. 9, 1926, in San Pablo, Colo., to the late Rafael and Tomesita Sanchez Olivas. He served our country in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee. Armando was retired from TVA and a retired boilermaker. He was a member of the Boilermakers District 57 and Local 454. He was a member of Hillside Baptist Church. Armando was a member of the VFW 4848 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He loved to fish and hunt.
Armando was preceded in death by his two sons, Gerald and Jerry Olivas; brother, Fred Olivas.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frankie Guffey Olivas; three children, Amanda (Charles) Tanner, Christopher Olivas and Karen (Mike) Glenn; grandchildren, Jeremy Tanner, Michael and Jared Glenn and Patience (Fred) Miller; great-grandchildren, Frederick and Stephen Miller; sister, Ida Johnson and a brother, Abel Olivas; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Armando will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the North Chapel with the Rev. Steve Cape officiating.
Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

John Walker
John "Johnny" Walker, 66, of East Ridge, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008.
He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, a well-known painter for many people and a faithful employee for many years at Royal Desoto, Culp, and Pyramid Moldings. He gave to many and asked nothing for himself. He supported several religious organizations to help spread the word of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Margaret Walker; and brother, Paul Walker.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Connie Walker; daughter, Linda Hill (Marvin); the love of his life, grandson, Kyle and granddaughter, Tiffani; niece, Kim Wright; brothers, Willie Walker, Lonnie Walker, and Bobby Walker; sisters, Gladys Quinn, JoAnne Wilson, Kay Harden, and Roberta Boyd; and several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. ... So surely this day Johnny is resting with Jesus!

SPRING CITY -- Billie Mildred Baggett, 90, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Rhea Medical Center.
Born in Whitwell, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Webster and Mary Frances Brown. She was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Dale Baptist Church.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Brady B. "Snub" Baggett; son, Brady F. Baggett; daughter, Ann Robbins; and granddaughter, Carolyn McClendon Calvert Swafford; sisters, Lorene Shirley, Rebecca True King and Joy Faye Moore and an infant brother.
Survivors include her daughter, Delight (Edwin) McClendon, of Spring City; sons, Don (Lois) Baggett, of Hixson, and Randy (Libby Gaffney) Baggett, of Evensville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Edwin Jr., and Mike McClendon, of Spring City, Robin Billingsley, of Rockwood, Tenn., Susan Glasglow, of Knoxville, Tammy Mays and Lisa Grant, of Soddy-Daisy, and Alicia England (Baggett), of Evensville; 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Edington officiating.
Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery.

Lee served as Monteagle police chief for many years before retiring in 2006.

John Cornwell
ROSSVILLE -- William "John" Cornwell, 51, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at a local hospital.
Mr. Cornwell was a native of Wilmington, Del., had lived for 20 years in Knoxville before moving to the Rossville and Fort Oglethorpe area one year ago. He was a U. S. Army Veteran, serving as a gunman in Germany. He fought a courageous battle with a long term illness and he will be dearly missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Nita Cornwell; four children, Jason Garber, of Knoxville, Misty Bryan, of Ringgold, Laura Brown, of Ringgold, and Johnny Cornwell, of Knoxville; seven grandchildren, Blake, Hallie, Dylan, Bella, Caleb, Cody, and Kate.

He was a loving caregiver, a lifelong resident of Bryant, and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Smith; parents, Elijah and Ida Smith; son, Timothy Smith; three brothers; six sisters.
Survivors include his sons, Nathan Smith, of Bryant, and Gary Smith, of Flat Rock, Ala.; sister, Mary Atkins, of Bryant; five grandchildren; four great- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. EST Tuesday in the Bryant chapel with Brother Edwin Spurgeon and Brother Dean Johnson officiating.
