Oh my gosh. After making the detailed comparison between Mike Shula and Lane Kiffin in last Saturday’s column (and let me tell you, that got a great response from the Tennessee fans), I did some Googling, ahem, of Kiffin’s wife and eventually developed even more comparisons. I am not the only one doing this: at one point Monday, Kiffin’s wife was the most searched person on the entire planet. So there. If you judge me, you’re judging the entire universe.
ANYWAY, Mrs. Kiffin is receiving quite the attention for her looks. (An aside: guys, do NOT show your wives the picture of Layla at the press conference, eight months pregnant and still attractive. That’s not very forward thinking. I have a married friend who did this. He’s currently in critical but stable condition.) That made me think of Shula’s wife, and yes: she was an attractive blonde. Another comparison. And then the real fun: you know how Layla Kiffin worked for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? Well, Shari Shula...used to work for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to numerous websites, she was a cheerleader. It’s on the Internet, so you know it’s true.
Sorry, Tennessee fans. But hey, more than 2,000 of you already signed up for Clay Travis’ Facebook group, Our Coach’s Wife Is Hotter Than Your Coach’s Wife. It says:
“It’s time we all rally around Lane Kiffin in the only way we possibly can before the next season begins. By pointing out that his wife is hotter than your coach’s wife.
Clearly this will ultimately translate to SEC Championships on the field.”
So you’ve got that.
Before we get to the pick, thanks to former Times Free Press writer and current Press-Register writer in Mobile, Gentry Estes, for helping me out as I became a de facto Alabama beat writer. Gentry is brilliant like a thousand suns, despite the fact he’s a Chelsea fan.
To the pick:
Alabama (+10) vs. Florida: There’s a reason bookies drive around in Lexuses and gamblers attend meetings. Vegas sets point spreads based on perception. I’ve spent so much time in Alabama that I don’t think I can reasonably take an outsider’s look at this game. I can’t figure out if Vegas is exploiting the very passionate South or a nation that thinks Florida is going to roll, because this point spread is generating a lot of discussion. Honestly, I don’t even know. How’s that for the last pick of the year?
Pick: OK, Bama covers. You’ve exploited me, Vegas. Again.
Last week: 5-3
Season: 42-42-2 (14 games worse than last year)
