Seven area players all-state in volleyball

by Jaime Lackey

Five area high school players who were named to the all-tournament teams at this year’s state volleyball championships are honored today as all-state selections, and two others from the area join them on the teams released by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

After leading GPS to a second straight Division II Class AA state title, Bruisers seniors Jasmine Brown and Heather Parman added to their honors with the all-state selection. Brown was the MVP of the 2008 state tournament, and Parman, a University of Tennessee at Chattanooga signee, was named all-state-tournament.

Fellow UTC signee Christina Teter is also an all-state selection after leading Red Bank to the Class AAA state semifinals, and junior teammate Courtney Lawson, who made the all-state-tournament team, was also honored.

In Class A/AA, all-state-tournament team members Shelby May and Stephanie Silvers of Boyd-Buchanan were chosen after helping the Lady Bucs reach the state championship match, and East Ridge senior Takeisha Parham joined them on the all-state team.
