McMinn Central now 10-0

When McMinn Central’s girls turned up the defensive intensity, there was nothing Grundy County could do.

The Chargerettes allowed only seven second-half field goals in their 66-41 win Thursday over Grundy’s Lady Yellow Jackets in the Best of Preps basketball tournament at Chattanooga Christian.

McMinn Central broke open a six-point game with a 13-2 run at the end of the third quarter.

Laura Purkey and Jenna Adams paced the Chargerettes (10-0) with 14 points apiece, while University of Tennessee at Chattanooga signee Kylie Lambert had 12, eight in the third quarter, including a pull-up jumper at the buzzer.

After falling behind 17-7 after a quarter, Grundy fought back into the game with a 10-2 run, keyed by two 3s by Bridgett Smartt, the latter cutting the lead to 19-17. Smartt had 15 points to lead all scorers.
