Willie Idlette, the former standout Wake Forest University football star who came home to coach at Baylor School, was indicted today on seven counts of statutory rape involving a 17-year-old Baylor School student, records show.
Mr. Idlette turned himself in at the Hamilton County Jail earlier today, according to his attorney, Lee Davis.
Mr. Idlette, 23, was fired in November amid allegations of inappropriate conduct charges, the school said at the time.
Child Protective Services personnel referred the case to police in November.
Mr. Idlette, who set records at the private school and was a standout football player at Wake Forest University, was fired from his position in November, according to a statement from the school. The statement said the firing was “due to a violation (under) the Baylor School Faculty and Employee Handbook and conduct unbecoming of a Baylor faculty member.”
Mr. Idlette lettered in football, track and basketball at Baylor. At Wake Forest, he was a freshman All-America football selection.
He told the Chattanooga Times Free Press in July that he was returning to Baylor as a varsity football and track assistant. It was reported that he also would work with the freshman basketball team and live on campus in his position.
