Voters complain to election commission about irregularities

By Matt Wilson

Staff Writer

A group of voters and a Democratic party official complained to the Hamilton County Election Commission today about problems at the polls during the Feb. 5 primary.

John Bailes, chairman of the Hamilton County Democratic Party, said his office had received numerous calls on Super Tuesday from voters who could not get through to the Election Commission. He listed three requests:

— More hotlines for poll workers to ask questions and Web access for all browsers

— Competence and civility training for poll workers

— For precincts to have 80 percent of ballots ready on election day

Elections Administrator Bud Knowles said eight hotlines for poll workers and 10 lines for the public will be in place by August. He also said he has reassigned poll workers about whom citizens complained.
