CCA announces new prison in Trousdale County

A private prison company has announced it will build a new facility in Trousdale County.

Nashville-based Corrections Corporation of America says the $143 million facility will hold more than 2,000 prisoners and create 350 new jobs.

The company expects to begin construction on a more than 100-acre site in Hartsville this summer and expects it to be completed within 18 months.

The Trousdale Correctional Center will be the company’s eighth prison in Tennessee. The company says it will offer to hold prisoners from Tennessee, the federal government or other states with prison space shortages.

CCA also operates Hamilton County’s Silverdale Workhouse in Chattanooga.
