A DNA analyst testified today in Hamilton County Criminal Court that bloodstains found on Timothy Tylus Sorrells’ shirt belonged to homicide victim Virginia Knight.

Sarah Shields, of Bode Technology in Lorton, Va., testified that the odds that a bloodstain found on Mr. Sorrells’ shirt might belong to anyone other than the victim exceeds the world population.

However, Ms. Shields also testified that one of the four bloodstains appears to contain DNA belonging to a male other than Mr. Sorrells.

Mr. Sorrells is charged with first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in the May 21, 2006, strangulation death of 53-year-old Ms. Knight.

Trial testimony indicated that Ms. Knight’s body was discovered two days later in an illegal dump site along Asbury Park Road.
