Bradley County gets ready for early voting
CLEVELAND, Tenn. — People who want to vote in the Aug. 7 county general and state primary election have until July 8 to register, Bradley County election officials said Tuesday.
Early voting in the primary is July 18 through Aug. 2.
Bradley County election commissioners discussed preparations and approved a list of early voting locations at their July meeting Tuesday.
“Everything is in place and ready,” Chairwoman Mary Francis Armstrong said.
Election commissioners expect a far bigger turnout among the county’s 57,000 registered voters in August than they saw in the February presidential preference. They predict a still larger turnout for the November presidential election.
Elections Director Fran Green said training dates and Election Day schedules for election workers are being completed.
“Once the scheduling is done, the election workers will be in place,” she said.
Some Bradley County precincts may have many different ballots, reflecting the mix of city and county voters and the party primaries.
“The most important job we have is getting the voter the right ballot,” Ms. Armstrong said.
That won’t be a problem for early voting, where there are only three voting locations, Commissioner Harlan White said.
The election commission has scheduled called meetings on July 15 and July 22, both at 1 p.m. at the commission’s office in the courthouse annex.
Some military ballots have already been mailed, Ms. Green said.
The local ballot for August includes four county school board seats, three city school board seats, four city council seats and the Charleston City Commission.
