Chattanooga: Erlanger closes burn unit

Included in this article:      1 Comment

Erlanger hospital has closed its burn unit, hospital officials said.

The unit lost its medical director in February and the hospital has been unable to find a replacement, according to an e-mailed statement from Erlanger spokeswoman Jan Powell.

“After careful consideration and consultation with the local plastic surgeons providing coverage for the unit, Erlanger officials have determined that closing our burn unit is in the best interests of major burn patients,” the statement said.

Erlanger spokeswoman Nancy Poston said today that no one at the hospital is available for comment on the burn unit, which closed Tuesday.

Erlanger remains a Level I trauma center, hospital officials said in the statement. The burn unit’s employees have been absorbed into other areas of the hospital.

Meaning no one else would take the director's job at that pay.

Folks, this is socialized national health gone wild and will soon appear at a hospital near you...if you haven't seen it already. My doctors -- primary care and specialists -- take a pay cut every year thanks to involuntarily-imposed Medicare.

I have no choice -- if I want to keep my non-Medicare drug insurance, I MUST take [and pay for] Part B at $1,200 per year. Cheap for me? Sure, so long as I can find a doctor...but they are fast disappearing into Forensics, Research, any better paying non-Medicare, non-Federal controlled work. Once they disappear, as they have in Canada, England, et al, you will either wait your turn for care or do without.

Think about THAT this November, then vote the socialized medicine pushing idiots out. Those young who don't need Medicare [and can't get it anyway] but who pay for it will thank you with every breath.

Personally, I think Medicare should be eliminated...I'd rather have my health and less money than more money and poor health for lack of doctors.
