Chattanooga: Baylor begins search for Stacy successor
Baylor School is searching for a new CEO to replace Dr. Bill Stacy, who will retire from the Chattanooga prep school when his current contract expires in June 2010, a school official said today.
Dr. Stacy, a former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga chancellor who joined Baylor four years ago, said he will remain as head of the 1,075-student school this fall when the 2008-2009 school year begins. Baylor spokeswoman Barbara Kennedy said today that school trustees have begun a national search for a successor to Dr. Stacy.
“There is going to be a formal announcement made in August when the school community gets back on campus and it could take up to a year or two to complete the search,” she said.
On Thursday, Baylor posted the CEO position for the school with the National Association of Independent Schools. Jack Stanford, who previously served as interim head at Baylor, is chairman of the Baylor search committee.
In the job posting, Baylor trustees said they are looking for “an experienced administrator who must understand, honor and strengthen the traditions” of the 115-year-old private school. Baylor has had only eight headmasters or presidents since its founding in 1893.
Dr. Stacy, who turns 70 this month, served as chancellor at UTC for eight years and became Baylor headmaster in 2004 after he tried unsuccessfully to become president of the University of Tennessee. He told Baylor trustees of his decision to retire in two years at the school’s last board of trustees meeting in June.
