Chattanooga Fugitive Investigators and ATF Agents have arrested Montez Menifee at the In Town Suites on Lee Highway. He was located just after 11 p.m. Tuesday when police checked the motel while following up on leads of his whereabouts, according to Sgt. Jerri Weary of the Chattanooga Police Department.
She said Mr. Menifee was taken into custody without incident.
Mr. Menifee had been arrested July 2 and booked into the Hamilton County Jail on probation violation charges. His arrest followed a night of firebombings that occurred after the fatal stabbing of LaTony Johnson in the East Lake Courts public housing complex. Courrie Long, who has outstanding warrants for Mr. Johnson’s death, still has not been located.
Agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives wanted Mr. Menifee held until they filed federal charges, but he was released on $4,500 bond last Thursday.
Also located in the room with Mr. Menifee were Anthony Amey, Jr., also known as Man, Man/Ant and Hannah Sanders. Mr. Amey was arrested for failure to appear on an outstanding warrant for unlawful carrying/possession of a dangerous weapon. Ms. Sanders, a run away, was released to the custody of her mother, Sgt. Weary said.
Tuesday’s arrest was a result of the collaborative efforts of the Chattanooga Police Department, ATF, State Bomb and Arson, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, FBI Safe Streets Task Force and Chattanooga Fire Investigators.
