Health Fair
The East Side Community Taskforce will be hosting the 2nd annual health fair on Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sheraton Street between Rubio and Wilson Streets. The health fair will feature interactive health information, music, food, and prizes. For more information, call Mildred Moreland at 304-1156.
Aortic aneurysm
A screening that detects a bulge in an artery wall is scheduled Monday through Friday at Memorial Hospital, Memorial North Park or Memorial Atrium Imaging Center. Eligible for the free tests are people 65 and older who have no previous diagnosis of abdominal aortic aneurysm and who have not had an abdominal CT scan in the past five years. Neck and Arm Pain Screening
Screening is for people with unexplained neck, arm or hand pain. 8-11 a.m., Erlanger North Campus Annex, Suite 200. Registration is required. Call 778-5465 to register.
Back Screening
Erlanger North Campus Annex, Suite 200. A brief assessment will be provided with helpful suggestions on body mechanics and postural management for those with acute and chronic pain. Registration is required. Call 778-5465.
Pancreatic Cancer
The next pancreatic cancer meeting will be held at Memorial Hospital Cancer Resource center located on the third floor of the Plaza building at 6:30 p.m. Today. Dr. Davey Daniel with Chattanooga Oncology and Hematology Associates will be the speaker. For more information call 894-2744.
Balance Screening
A free screening presented by Erlanger and Siskin Hospital for Rehabilitation to evaluate balance and stability and to determine if further testing or treatment is necessary. An excellent screening for seniors whose balance problems may be affecting their mobility and independence. 8:30 -10:45 a.m. Erlanger East Campus on Gunbarrel Road. Registration is required. Bone Density Screening
This screening for osteoporosis is a pixi-screening of the ankle to determine if further treatment or examination for bone loss is necessary. Registration is required. Appointments are limited. Call 778-5465 to register at Erlanger East Campus on Gunbarrel Road.
Cancer
Memorial Hospital provides complimentary massages to cancer patients currently in treatment on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. Call 495-7778 for an appointment at one of three locations.
Diabetes
Free classes are offered to diabetes patients who use Lantus or Apidra insulin. Sessions begin at 5:30 p.m. each Tuesday at 2307 Napier Road, Suite 117. Call 544-0340 to reserve a place or for more information.
Mental Illness Disorders
A free comprehensive workshop (2 sessions) that is designed specifically for family members and friends of persons affected with mental illnesses. “With Hope In Mind,” you will be offered information on symptoms, emotional support, tips for self care, coping skills, problem management and hope. Medical Weight Management Seminar
A free seminar for area residents 100 or more pounds overweight and/or with health problems related to obesity are invited to learn more about Erlanger Bariatric Services. Registration is required. Call 778-5465.
Fitness
Free and ongoing tai chi classes are held from 10 to 11 a.m. each Sunday in Coolidge Park on the North Shore. Chris Campbell is instructor. For more information, call 821-8947.
Low Impact Exercise
Free, low-impact exercise class at Northgate led by an exercise physiologist from Siskin Therapy Services with Erlanger, July 14. No registration is necessary. Call 778-5465 for information.
Water Aerobics Class
Free exercise class 10 to 11 a.m. at the Fitness Center at Siskin Hospital. Class is conducted in a swimming pool to help support the joints and encourage free movement. No registration is necessary. Class available on first come/first served basis. Call 778-5465.
Core Training Class
Free exercise class 10 to 11 a.m. at the Fitness Center at Siskin Hospital. Class will introduce several exercises that are the building blocks for core muscle strength and coordination. No registration is necessary. Call 778-5465.
Car Seat Check Up
Safe and Sound Office (Erlanger Baroness Campus-Downtown). Safe and Sound will conduct, weather permitting, car seat inspections/installations. July 17. An appointment is required. Call 778-6691 for details and available times.
