Early Sunday evening, England time, Karah Nazor became the first swimmer from Tennessee to complete a swim across the English Channel. The crossing took 12 hours and 28 minutes and was grueling, according to her mother, Karen Nazor Hill, who was on the boat next to Karah as she swam through the choppy, 60-degree water.

Karah says her arms are a bit sore, but she’s none the worse for wear. She feels lucky, she said, that she has no pain in her shoulders, she said while in the car heading for Wales with her mother and stepfather, Hank Hill.
