Chattanooga: ‘Antiques Roadshow’ crew fires Civil War cannon here

A crew from the popular PBS series “Antiques Roadshow” fired a Civil War-era cannon at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park this morning for one of three episodes being filmed here this week.

Historical ordnance restoration specialist Thomas J. Bailey of Woodstock, Ga., brought the cannon to be appraised by Savannah, Tenn.,-based antiques dealer Rafael Eledge, who said it could be worth at least $80,000.

Cannon are “the ultimate in Civil War collectibles,” Mr. Eledge said during a break in filming. “A lot of people can say they have a pistol or a musket, but not everybody can say they have a cannon.”

The cannon episode will be part of the series’ next season, which will air between January and May, according to host Mark L. Walberg. A specific air date will be published on the show’s Web site this fall, Mr. Walberg said.
