Chattanooga’s Salvation Army calls for donations amid swelter

by Tom Faure

It’s one of the hottest days of the year today, but officials say the local Salvation Army centers are out of essential supplies for sweating out the mid-90s heat.

Spokeswoman Kimberly George said the centers in East Lake and on McCallie Avenue have run out of replenishing drinks such as Gatorade and Powerade.

“Whenever the homeless come to us, when they’ve been in the heat and walking, they need to have that replenishment right away,” Ms. George said.

Ms. George said powdered mixes of the drink are best and that the centers also need fans, food and toiletries like deodorant.

Ms. George said donors can call 1-800-725-2769. They can also mail or drop off donations to 800 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga.

Don't forget the Chattanooga Community Kitchen. They do a lot of work with the Homeless in Chattanooga. Feeding, Clothing and providing facilities everyday. Any donations of food, clothes, drinks, toiletries, etc. would be appreciated.
