Chattanooga police are investigating a Wednesday evening shooting that left one man with a gunshot wound to his hand at the Concord Apartments on East Brainerd Road.
The property crimes division is investigating the shooting, which occurred when two men struggled over a gun, said Lt. Tim Carroll, head of the department’s major crimes division.
The shooting that happened yesterday at 7301 East Brainerd Road was apparently the result of a drug deal gone badly, according to police spokesperson Sgt. Jerri Weary.
She said police responded to the Concord Apartments at 7:10 p.m. where Eric Underwood was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand.
According to police reports, Mr. Underwood was confronted by an unknown individual about money owed for a drug deal.
Mr. Underwood and the unknown suspect argued about the matter which eventually became physical, she said. At some point, the suspect produced a gun and shot Underwood in the hand.
When police arrived, Mr. Underwood wasn’t very cooperative with facts of the incident, Sgt. Weary said. Evidence of drug activity was located near the scene which linked back to the shooting. A suspect description was not given. Police are still investigating the incident and charges are pending.
Mr. Underwood was taken to Erlanger hospital where he was treated for his injury. His current condition is unknown.
