* Why it’s worth the trip: For those who can play, sing or just love to listen to bluegrass, gospel, folk or country music, it’s a cultural bonanza. Musicians understand the concept of jamming, and this weekly event brings professionals and beginners together.

* Admission: Free.

* Things to do: Bring acoustic instruments, lawn chairs, a picnic supper and settle in for an evening of family entertainment. There are no scheduled performers, but pickers are scattered throughout the park. Other attractions in the park are the historic Couey House and the Summerville Railroad Turntable.

* Cost-saving tip: James “Sloppy” Floyd State Park is about three miles away and open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m., for camping, swimming, fishing on two stocked lakes, pedal boat rentals, hiking and a playground.
