9:00 p.m.

Green Castle, Penn.

Night falls on the Pennsylvania highway, and Ms. Stanford keeps driving until she finds a rest area to stop and sleep for the night.

Right as after we passed into the Keystone state, we stopped for the night at a rest area. We pulled into the last open space in a line of nearly 20 other trucks. Before I settled into the top bunk and said goodnight, Shiela handed me a large red mug and some baby wipes. If I needed to go to the bathroom, she said it was better to use the mug than go out at night at the truck stop. I weighed my options. When it came down to it, I did things my own way: I held it.
