House burns while family on vacation

A family on vacation in Florida will return home to find their Char Mac Lane home destroyed by an early morning fire, according to Chattanooga Fire Department’s Lt. Terri D Whiteside.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud “boom” and ran to the home on 3314 Char Mac Lane to find flames coming from the carport area.

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the call at 8:23 a.m. and responded with four fire companies. Capt. Charles Patterson with Engine 20 was the first fire company on the scene and said they found flames had totally engulfed the left side of the house and had extended through the roof.

Additional fire companies were called in to help battle the blaze.

Lt. Anthony Moore said the home and a vehicle in the carport are a total loss.

The family that lives in the home was notified by neighbors of the fire.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.
