Ernestine Brock
Ernesttne M. Park Brock, 87, finally got to go home on Saturday, May 31, 2008.
She was born on Aug. 5, 1920, in Boynton, Ga. Mrs. Brock was well known and very active in the Soddy-Daisy community. She had been on the Senior Center Board that went to Nashville to get approval for the Soddy-Daisy Nursing Home, where she later at the age of 80 volunteered so she could help "care for the elderly." She headed the Toys for Tots collection campaign many years and delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered at the Johnson Mental Health Center and was a Girl Scout leader. She held many positions in the Soddy and Daisy Woman's Club, the Homemakers Club and the Saddle Pals Riding Club. At the age of 84 she became a foster grandparent at Daisy Head Start.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie and Wayne Park; husband, Lawrence Edward Brock, and six brothers, McClendon, Foy, LeRoy, Dennis, Freeland and Johnny Park.
She is survived by her sons and spouses, Wayne and Pam Brock, of Graysville, Tenn., Paul and Sue Brock, of Hixson, Buddy and Gaynell Brock, of Red Bank; daughters and spouses, Linda and Larry McClendon, of Alvin, Texas, Pat and Jim Reynolds, of Soddy-Daisy, Pam and Ollie Counts, of Soddy-Daisy. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Butch, Becca, Jeremy, Sharon, Lisa, Paul Jr., Suann, Steven, Larry II, Kim, Chris, Meredith, Lee; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alan Stewart and the Rev. Don Lasley officiating.
Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Paul Brock Jr., Steven Brock, Larry McClendon II, Chris Neighbors, Lee Counts and Jeremy Smith.

Lela V. Brotherton, 92, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2008.
She was a longtime resident of Soddy-Daisy. She was retired from nursing and, she was a member of Word of Life Church in Hixson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard J. Brotherton Sr.
She is survived by sons, Willard Brotherton Jr., of Chattanooga, Tom (Gail) Brotherton, of Maryville, Tenn., Stan (Helen) Brotherton, of Soddy-Daisy; daughters, Patsy (Mack) Siniard, of Rock Spring, Ga., Mary (John) Holloway, of LaFayette, Ga., Sally Ann Martin, of Ringgold, Ga.; sisters, Dorothy Akins, of Fort Oglethorpe, Doris LaDuke, of Chattanooga; several grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Greg Alex officiating.
Entombment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.

Becky Grant
Vestle "Becky" Grant, 79, of Chattanooga, passed away at her home on Friday, May 30, 2008.
She was born on Aug. 25, 1928, and raised in Dodge County, Ga. Becky had lived in Chattanooga since 1974 and was an active member of Concord Baptist Church.
Her husband, Oscar A. Grant; and her son, Phillip A. Grant, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Gregory J. Grant, Chattanooga; and her sister, Christine Dennis, Eastman, Ga.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Tennessee Baptist Children's Home.

Ella Mae Hardaway, 70, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008, in a local hospital.
She was a member of New Anointing Pure Holiness Church of God, where she served on the Missionary Board.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Leola Pollard.
Survivors include her husband, Adam Hardaway; sons, Gregory, Elder Joseph (Linda) and Elder Ricky (Charlotte) Hardaway; daughters, Amber Faye (Elder Walter) Harmon and Sandra (Jerome) Gober; stepdaughter, Bonita (James) Terry; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Jr., Leroy, James (Mary) and Charles (Betty) Pollard; sisters, Betty (Howard) Borders and Elnora (Eddie) Hood; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special people lives she mentored and touched; in-laws; other relatives and friends.

Verna Norman Oliver, 90, of Chattanooga, passed away at an area hospital on Saturday, May 31, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Benjamin Norman and Lewis Oliver; stepson, Col. Berkie Norman; daughter, Ann Morelock; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived and will be missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Debbie Norman, Crossville, Tenn.; sister, Edna Wall, Rossville; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. CDT on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, in the chapel of Pikeville Funeral Home with visitation prior to service starting at 9 a.m. CDT.

Donald B. Painter
Donald "Bill" Painter, 81, of Chattanooga, passed away in his sleep after a lengthy illness.
He lived in the Bloomingdale Community before moving to Chattanooga.
Mr. Painter loved riding motorcycles, gardening and playing golf. He went into the CC Camp at the age of 14. He was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 18 and proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict. He worked as a brick mason for Steadman Construction Company. Later, he went to work for Mason Dixon Freight Lines. He retired from Mason Dixon after 28 years of service. Mr. Painter served as a Deacon of Harmony Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Shriners Motorcycle Patrol and served as a bus driver for the Shriners Hospital in the burn unit. Mr. Painter was a member of the Masons and the Jericho Shriners.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Opie Bruin Painter and Bertha Savanna Tudor Painter; his first wife, Kathleen Painter; an infant daughter, Lisa Ann Painter; a son, Billy Painter; and Skyler, his favorite dog.
Surviving Mr. Painter are his wife of seven years, Wanda Weaver Painter of Harrison, Tenn.; one son, Gene Painter and wife, Betty of Kingsport; a daughter-in-law, Gracie Painter of Yuma, Va.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard "Mutt" Painter of Chattanooga; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Guy Tilley officiating.
Visitation for Mr. Painter will be today, June 2, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Naomi Elizabeth Parker, 73, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at her home in Berryhill, Okla.
Naomi retired after 55 years of teaching. The last 40 years was in Chattanooga, where she was a highly respected pioneer in the community as a principal, teacher and counselor. She touched many lives, and we ask all to keep her in your prayers.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, Florence Schulte and James E. Parker, Wichita, Kan.; sister, Delores Foster, Lincoln, Neb.; and brother, Edward Parker, Oklahoma City, Okla.
Survivors: sister, Donna (Mike) Gomez, Tulsa, Okla.; brother, Pat (Francine) Parker, Edgemont, S.D.; sister, Debbie (Daniel) Garnand, Guthrie, Okla.; aunts, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

William Worley
Staff Sgt. William "Bill" Worley, 78, of Hixson, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away Friday, May 30, 2008 in a local hospital.
He was a graduate of Kirkman High School and attended Chattanooga State Community College. He was retired from the United States Army and served during World War II. Staff Sgt Worley was also a retired boilermaker. He was a member St. Jude Catholic Church and the Downtown YMCA.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annaleise Worley; and several siblings.

DUNLAP -- Lonnie Gerron Carr, 46, died at his residence Saturday, May 31, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Carr was a lifelong resident of Sequatchie County. He graduated from Sequatchie County High School in 1979 and was a fabricator/welder at Komatsu International for 18 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dunlap. He loved to travel, ride motorcycles, hunt and fish and was a remarkable craftsman and musician and was loving and kind to those who knew him. His favorite quote was "Do small things with great love".
Preceded in death by parents, Benton and Dean Layne Carr; and brothers, Dewayne Carr and Michael Carr.
Survivors include wife, Marsha Hamblen Carr; daughter, Gerra (Brian) Worthington; two sisters, Frankie (Charles) Johnson and Donna Newman; four brothers, Darrell (Ann) Carr, Rickey (Vicki) Carr, Patrick Carr and Mitchel (Debbie) Carr; two grandchildren, Garrett and Brianna Worthington, all of Dunlap.

SOUTH PITTSBURG -- Jamie O'Leary Runyan, 86, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, in a Chattanooga hospital.
She was a member of the Richard City Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a long time employee of Loyd's, and was an accomplished artist, specializing in China painting.
She was the daughter of the late Albert and Lillie Dobson O'Leary. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Norman Runyan; brothers, Robert E. and Willam A. O'Leary; two sisters, Alberta O. Harned and Addie O. Neal.
Ms. Runyan is survived by a sister, Patsy O. Barker, S. Pittsburg; a brother, Dr. Paul O'Leary of Memphis; and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted from the S. Pittsburg chapel of Rogers Funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, with Rev. Cliff Hudson & Dr. Glen Brister officiating.

JACKSON -- Steve Jackson, 60, died Friday, May 30, 2008, at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon, Tenn., as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Aug. 2, 1947, in Chattanooga, the son of the late Eugene Jackson and Dorothy Carlock Jackson. He graduated from Red Bank High School in Chattanooga. Steve was the Assistant District Attorney for the 24th Judicial District which includes Benton, Carroll, Decatur, Hardin and Henry counties. He was a devoted husband and a great father. He was committed to his work, passionate about golf, and faithful to his church as he was active in the TV and radio ministry at West Jackson Baptist Church.
Steve is survived by his wife Val Jackson, of Jackson, Tenn.; one son, Jay Jackson of Hanover, Pa.; one daughter, Stacy Lowe of Athens, Tenn.; two brothers, Don Jackson of Hendersonville, Tenn., Randy Jackson of Chattanooga; two sisters, Susan Westbrook of Chattanooga, Betsy Compton of Chattanooga; and one grandchild, Mike Lowe.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Memorial Park with Dr. Fred Steelman officiating.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be directed to the Music and Sound Ministry at West Jackson Baptist Church, 580 Oil Well Rd., Jackson, TN 38305.
The family will be receiving friends Wednesday, June 4 2008 from 1-3 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home.
