Tennessee: Regents committee seeks 6 percent tuition jump, 7 for University of Memphis

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee Board of Regents committee is recommending that tuition increase by 7 percent at the University of Memphis and by 6 percent at the other 4-year universities it oversees.

The board’s finance committee also recommended at a meeting Tuesday to increase tuition by 6 percent at community colleges and technology centers.

The state Board of Regents oversees six universities, 13 2-year colleges and 26 technology centers.

The full board is expected to meet June 26 to consider the committee’s recommendations.

Board Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance, Bob Adams, said the higher increase at the Memphis school necessary because it is a research institution and has expenses the other 4-year schools don’t.
