LESS THAN a week after the national opening of the new DreamWorks movie “Kung Fu Panda,” three main characters of the movie were found roaming the hallways of T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital presenting souvenirs to young patients, said Jennifer Homa, public relations spokeswoman at Erlanger Health System.
“Po, Tigress and Viper costumes were created by Betty Ulrey, who works in management at Carmike Cinemas,” Ms. Homa said. “Movie posters, stickers and popcorn were delivered by Ms. Ulrey and the Carmike team so that all the children could have a piece of movie magic.”
Po, the Kung Fu Panda, demonstrated martial art moves to the children and their families. HEARD ON THE TOWN
MEMBERS OF the Southeast Tennessee Chapter of the Magna Charta Dames & Barons met at the English Rose tearoom for their spring meeting. According to Chapter Regent Laura Bales, guest speaker for the event was Tennessee Vice Regent Mary West.
Membership in the genealogical organization is open to anyone who can prove their ancestors descended from one of the barons who signed the Magna Charta, Ms. Bales said.
“There are many books at the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library that cover the lines of the barons,” she said. “All you have to do is connect your line to theirs.”
Also at the meeting, the group donated two volumes of “The Great Migration: Immigrants to New England: 1634-1635” to the downtown library, Ms. Bales said.
Among those attending the meeting were Sarah Roach, Steve Robinson, Karen Myrick, Frances Campbell and Sally Batts.
