Chattanooga: Drowning victim identified

Officials have identified Sunday’s drowning victim as 55-year-old John Ray Bennett of Chickamauga, Ga.

Sheriff’s deputies and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officers responded to a reported drowning at Brown’s Bridge Campground in Sale Creek shortly before 7 p.m., according to Lt. Max Templeton of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.

Upon their arrival, deputies found several people performing CPR on Mr. Bennett, he said.

Hamilton County EMS rushed to the site, but Mr. Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene, the lieutenant said.

The TWRA is investigating what caused the drowning, Lt. Templeton said.
