Chattanooga police arrested a man Saturday afternoon following a two-hour standoff at the suspect’s 1613 Anderson Ave. home, according to a police statement.
Officers responded to a disorder at the residence at about 11 a.m., and were advised by a relative that 40-year-old Sean Beaty had locked himself in his room and refused to come out. He stated that he had a gun and that he would use it, said spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary in the news release.
Beaty is a newspaper deliveryman and had an argument with his brother about wrecking his brother’s van while delivering papers, Sgt. Weary said. During the argument with his brother, he made threats and ran back to his bedroom where he locked the door.
Once police arrived, Mr. Beaty refused to come out and said that he'd shoot anyone who tried to come in, Sgt. Weary said.
Members of the Chattanooga Police Department SWAT Team as well as the Hostage Negotiations Team responded and were able to extract Beaty from the home without incident, Sgt. Weary said.
He was taken into custody and is being transported to the Hamilton County Jail, where he will face charges for two counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of simple assault.
