Habitat chapters get state grants
Habitat for Humanity of Tennessee has received a $500,000 grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency toward construction of 20 Habitat for Humanity homes across Tennessee through the Homes for Tennessee Initiative.
The Housing Trust Fund is targeted to households earning 50 percent or less of the area median income.
Twenty Habitat for Humanity homes will be built by the end of 2008, including four in Chattanooga and one in Cleveland.
Each of the 20 participating Habitat for Humanity affiliates will receive a grant of $23,250, which they will match with donations from their communities to complete the homes.
Sparta course to be auctioned
RiverWatch Golf Club, Tennessee’s first 18-hole championship golf course on Center Hill Lake, will be auctioned at 11 a.m. on May 6. The property is in Sparta, Tenn.
There will be no minimum and no reserve. The property will be previewed at 11 a.m. on April 3 and 29.
A group of doctors developed the golf course and home sites and wants to end its association with the project, said Marty Howell of Hilda W. Allen Real Estate.
The course offers five sets of tees so golfers of all abilities can play competitively within their group. The semi-private club has a pro shop and restaurant. The first nine holes were built in 2000, and the last nine were built in 2004.
From Chattanooga, take U.S. Highway 27 to Highway 111 North, take Smithville Sparta exit, turn left on Highway 70 and proceed 11 miles. RiverWatch will be on the left.
