Six of 12 local convenience stores monitored by police over the weekend will have to appear before the Chattanooga Beer Board for selling alcohol to an underage buyer, according to Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman Lt. Kim Noorbergen.
The police department partnered with the Community Anti-Drug Coalition Across Hamilton County to conduct compliance checks in the East Chattanooga and Tunnel Boulevard areas Friday night, Lt. Noorbergen said. During the checks, officers sent an 18-year-old into the stores, where he tried to buy beer.
Six stores checked for proper identification and refused the sale:
C & S Market, 1520 Dodson Ave.; Kanku’s, 101 Glenwood Ave.; Smoke 1, 2100 McCallie Ave.; Jordan Market, 1114 Tunnel Blvd.; Conoco, 3441 Wilcox Blvd.; and Food Lion, 3201 Wilcox Blvd.
The six stores that failed the check included:
Okie Dokie, 1900 Roanoke Ave.; Big K, 909 Dodson Ave.; JFT, 830 Dodson Ave.; Kanku’s, 702 Central Ave.; Kanku’s, 3440 Wilcox Blvd.; and Frank’s Grocery, 601 Tunnel Blvd.
