by Lauren Gregory

The Marine accused of killing friend and fellow Marine Lance Cpl. Kristopher Cody Warren pleaded guilty today to involuntary manslaughter for shooting the 19-year-old North Georgia man the face in November 2006.

Cpl. Douglas Michael Sullivan, 23, of Hamilton, Mass., entered his plea at Camp Pendleton, Calif., where he is stationed. A jury was selected for his sentencing hearing, which is scheduled to begin Wednesday morning, according to Capt. Joseph Grimm, his Marine Corps defense attorney.

Cpl. Sullivan had admitted in a previous stipulation of fact to pulling the trigger of an M-4 rifle sighted on the lance corporal’s face. The incident occurred while the two were serving together at the Military Police Operations Command Center on Forward Operating Base Trebil in Iraq.
