Richt wants Bulldogs to give Owens’ effort

After reviewing film of Monday’s first spring practice, Georgia football coach Mark Richt noticed defensive tackle Jeff Owens staying in the same frame with tailback Knowshon Moreno after Moreno caught a screen pass and ran about 50 yards.

At Wednesday’s second practice, apparently such effort was more abundant.

“I was really proud of the hustle,” Richt said. “That was one of the things we wanted to emphasize today. We wanted the guy with the ball to run harder and longer to force the defense to pursue harder and longer.

“If everybody went like Owens went Monday, we might have something special.”

The Bulldogs can get after each other a little more tonight in their third workout when they put on pads for the first time. They will practice again Friday but won’t hold their fifth workout until March 17, when they return from spring break.

A vote for McCain

Center Chris Davis was recently on Facebook.com and saw one of his fellow students, a tennis player, meeting George Bush at the White House as the result of the Bulldogs winning the 2007 national title.

“I thought that would be pretty cool to meet the president, so that’s the goal,” Davis said. “I want to meet the president.”

So which president would he like to meet?

“I’m a Republican, let’s put it that way,” he said.
