I-75 reopens after morning wreck

All lanes of traffic on northbound Interstate 75 are reopen today after a morning crash involving two 18-wheel semi trucks and three cars, officials said.

The driver of one semi lost control of his truck about 8:30 a.m. on I-75 near the East Ridge welcome center, causing the truck to jackknife and hit another 18-wheeler, according to officials. Three cars were caught in between the trucks, East Ridge Police Department spokesman Erik Hopkins said.

No serious injuries were reported, and workers were able to open two lanes of traffic at about 10:30 a.m.

He said the East Ridge Fire Department was called to the scene to clean up less than five gallons of diesel fuel that spilled onto the roadway.

One person was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Officer Hopkins said.

Heavy rain most likely factored into the accident, which remains under investigation, he said.
