Herbert Berry
Herbert Hoover Berry, 87, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, at a local hospital.
Mr. Berry was born in Grove Oak, Ala., to Preston and Mary Berry.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, of the Baptist faith, a member of the Tiftonia Lion's Club, and retired from Siskin Steel as a crane operator.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Berry; sons, Ronald (Sylvia), David (Barbara), Robert (Glenie), and Jimmy Berry; daughter, Sharon (Kenneth) Wyrick; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and onegreat-grand.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Wayland Stewart officiating.
Burial will follow at Lakewood Cemetery West.

Mae Boyd
Mae Garner Boyd, 83, of Hixson, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008.
Mae was a native of Alto, Tenn., and a longtime resident of the Hixson area. She was a former employee with Brunswick Bowling Lanes in Hixson and a charter member of the Women's Bowling Association. Mae was a former member of St. Jude Catholic Church and currently a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She served as a volunteer for many years at Bethel Bible.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Clyde L. Boyd; two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her three children, Philip L. (Vickie) Boyd, Brenda (Richard) Thompson and Linda (Randolph) Stitcher; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Maxine Daniels; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel with Father Mike Creson officiating.
Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Michael Hicks
Michael Lee Hicks, 55, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2008, at his residence.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bozentown, where he served on the Deacon Board, Male Chorus and Mass Choir. He also held positions on the Usher Board and was a dedicated bus driver. He was a graduate of Howard High School. He then went to Job Corps, where he received a master's certificate as an automotive detailer. He was employed with Kelly Cadillac for over 20 years.
Survivors his wife of 28 years, Catherine Hicks; daughter, Maketta Hicks; stepson, Gary Hilt; stepdaughter, Miracle Hilt; one granddaughter, Lovely Hicks; 20 other stepgrandchildren; uncles, Douglas (Jean) Hicks, Dillard (Bertha) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Hicks and Patricia Dennis; brothers-in-law, Myron (Marcel) Hilt, Anthony (Marilyn) Hilt and Darrius (Amerie) Hilt; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; best friend, Tommie of Kelly Cadillac; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Chruch of Bozentown with Pastor Frank Ball officiaiting.
Burial: Highland Memorial Gardens.

Curtis L. Johnson, of Harrison, died Thursday, March 6, 2008.

Robert Mahoney Sr.
Robert Langley Mahoney Sr., 80, cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Mahoney was born Sept. 12, 1927 in Oak Park, Ill. His parents were native Chattanoogans and the family returned to make their home here in 1931. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, and following service in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he graduated from the University of Chattanooga. He worked in industrial distribution, serving 39 years with Mills & Lupton Supply Co., as vice president and secretary; Georgia Alabama Supply Co.; and FTD Enterprises. Following retirement, he contributed more than 4,000 hours as a volunteer in the Life Line Program at Memorial Hospital. An avid golfer, he was a member of Rivermont and Creeks Bend golf clubs.
Mr. Mahoney was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church and was active in the Serra Club, Knights of Columbus, and many other church and community endeavors.
He was the son of the late William T. and Catherine Crimmins Mahoney.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Breda Mahoney; his brothers, the Rev. William B. Mahoney, O.P. and George B. (Mildred) Mahoney; and an infant daughter who died at birth.
Mr. Mahoney is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Delaney Mahoney; five children; 13 grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren, all of whom he was very proud: Robert L. Mahoney Jr. (Mary Catherine Dean), Brigid, Patsy, Rosie and Dominic Mahoney of Nashville; Kaki Mahoney Roberts (Dale) and Jody Roberts of Asheville, N.C., Patrick W. Mahoney (Rebecca), Brian, Phillip, Clara and Kathleen Mahoney, of Macy, Ind., Edward B. Mahoney (Beth), Emily and Racy Mahoney, Jamie and Megan Greever, of Chattanooga; and Chris Mahoney (Dianna), Megan and Will Mahoney, also of Chattanooga; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated today, March 7, at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father George Schmidt officiating.
Interment will be private.

Lynnda "Lynn" Card Nagle, 68, formerly of Soddy-Daisy, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, in Prather, Calif.
Lynnda was born on July 30, 1939 to the late Virgil and Jean Card of Soddy-Daisy.
Lynnda is survived by her husband, Robert Nagle, Prather, Calif.; three children, Gina Barberee, Chattanooga, Joe (Donna) Bowman, Soddy-Daisy and Julie Cossey, Prather, Calif.; one sister, Jeannette (Paul) Leitner, Chattanooga; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; three stepchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel.

Evelyn DeShazo Rozzell, 85, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 5, 2008.
Evelyn was born in Birmingham, Ala., and has lived in Chattanooga most of adult life. She was a member of Red Bank Methodist Church and attended Central High School. She practiced as a dental assistant for many years. She was very talented and created beautiful heirloom quilts and needlework.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett A. Rozzell Jr.; mother, M. Estell B. DeShazo; father, Albert P. DeShazo Sr.; brother, A. Peyton DeShazo Jr. and wife, Betty Sue DeShazo; nephew, Jimmy DeShazo; brother, James M. DeShazo; and niece, Robby Sullivan.

Mildred Ragan Vincent, 96, of Red Bank, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in a local hospital.
She retired from Northside Dry Cleaners at age 83 after 30 years of service. Mrs. Vincent was perhaps the oldest member of Red Bank United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Wayne Vincent Sr., and she was the last of seven children.

Doris C. Zia, 85, of Alexian Grove in Chattanooga passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008.
She was the widow of Ramsey A. Zia, her husband of 62 years. She was born in Woonsocket, R.I. on Sept. 4, 1922, to Adelard and Alice Pariseau. She resided there with her husband until 1978 when they relocated to Gulfport, Fla. She moved to Chattanooga in February 2007. Her hobbies were painting, needlework and she authored a family history. She excelled in Scrabble and Crossword Puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Locien and Robert.
She is survived by a daughter, Lorraine J. Lambert and her husband, Paul, of Cape Code, Mass.; and a son, Gary R. Zia and his wife, Rosaland, of Soddy-Daisy; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service may be scheduled at a later date.

She had lived in the North Georgia area all of her life and was a member of Newnan Springs United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Friendship Class and enjoyed singing in the Choir. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, arts and crafts, as well as baking and decorating cakes.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki Germann.

FORT OGLETHORPE -- Betty Lou Williams Lowe, 73, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 5, 2008.
Mrs. Lowe was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe. She was employed with AAA Travel Agency, Georgia state treasurer of Amateur Athletic Union, and past member of Scenic City Chapter Of Sweet Adalines, and an advisor for Chattanooga Junior Achievements.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Lillie Williams; sister, Kathryn Bailey; and brother, Bill Williams.
Survived by her husband of 49 years, Jim Lowe; daughter, Kim (Mike) Ellis, of Fort Oglethorpe; sisters, Wilma (Stanton) Williams, of Texas, June Epperson, Fort Oglethorpe; grandchildren, Jacob (Ashly) Ellis, and Emily Ellis, all of Fort Oglethorpe; great-grandchild, Easton Ellis; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today from First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe. Service conducted by Dr. John Wyatt and the Rev. Brion Williams.
Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the church today from 9 a.m. until service time.

RINGGOLD -- Emma Ruth Nunley, 86, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, in a local hospital.
She was retired from Memorial Hospital after many years.
Mrs. Nunley was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Ridge; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors are son, George (Carol) Tankersley, Chattanooga; daughters, Patsey (Frank) Frizzell, Soddy-Daisy, Wanda (Ron) Chambers, Harrison, Carolyn (Red) Roszell, Ringgold, Nancy Barnes, Chickamauga; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Peace
ROSSVILLE -- Dorothy Houston Peace, 80, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at her residence.
She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and North Georgia. Mrs. Peace had been a member of Highland Park Baptist Church for 60 years and was a member of the Scott Sunday School Class. She was a 1945 graduate of Central High School and in 1989, she was the oldest member of her graduating class at Chattanooga State. Mrs. Peace was retired from Dixie Portland and ADM Flour Mill after 39 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Peace; brother, R.E. Houston Jr.; and sisters, Marjorie Pearson and Betty King; and granddaughter, Angela Scruggs.
Survivors are sons, David H. (Debbie) Peace, Harrison, James E. (Carmen) Peace, Hixson, Gary M. (Sherry) Peace, Chattanooga; daughters, Sandra K. (Dean) Poi, Chattanooga, Connie S. Allen, Fort Oglethorpe, Jeannie (Rocky) Thaxton, LaPorte, Texas, Judy L. (Allen) Hubbs, Rossville; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at noon today in the funeral home chapel with Dr. David Bouler and Elder Andrew Huffman officiating.
Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

ROSSVILLE -- Drayton Churchill Potter Jr., 66, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008.
He was born in Marion County, Tenn., to the late Drayton Churchill Potter Sr. and Alveda Moses Potter. He has lived most of his life in the North Georgia area and was of the Church of Christ faith. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, watching Nascar races and had formerly drag races at Brainerd Dragstrip.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Potter; and brother, Donald Potter.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Drayton Dewayne and Stacy Potter, Kevin Dion Potter; grandsons, Dustin and Dylan Potter, all of Rossville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Johnny Hogan, of Harrison, Bobbie and E.C. Harvey, of Hixson; and several nieces and nephews.

ROSSVILLE -- Eunice Inez Taylor, 67, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008.
She had lived in the North Georgia area for most of her life and was a member of Charity Baptist Church. She loved gardening and flowers and was employed with Wal-mart in the Garden department for more than four years. Her passion in life was her family and her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rupert and Mary Whittemore; her husband, Robert Alfred Taylor; and one sister, Anniece Daugherty.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Taylor Jr., of Toledo, Ohio and Carey Gene Taylor, of Soddy-Daisy; daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Charles Burnette, of Rossville; two brothers, Ivan Whittemore, of Red Bank, and Julius Whittemore of Rossville; sister, Allene Holsomback, of Ringgold, Ga.; five grandchildren, Cori Burnette, Angela Gutierrez, Stacie Santana, Amber and Brian Taylor; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

ROSSVILLE -- Charles Earl Teems, 84, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2008, at a local nursing home.
A lifelong resident of the North Georgia area he was a former employee of Dixie Yarn where he worked for 26 years and was of the Baptist faith. Earl was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during World War II and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean Norman Teems; parents, Jason and Abbigell Wessler Teems; daughter, Sherry Teems; two sisters, Mamie Ware and Katherine Shrader; and four brothers, Willis, Fred, Ralph and Harvey Teems.
He is survived by his wife, Ava Teems, of Rossville; daughter, Helen Key, of Ringgold, Ga.; three sons, David Teems of Ringgold, Marshall Teems, of Chickamauga, Ga., and Charles Teems, of Rossville; sister, Betty Brown, of Valley Head, Ala.; brother, John Teems, of East Ridge; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
