Houston Antiques Show includes Appraisal Fair
Next weekend’s Chattanooga Antiques Show presented by the Houston Museum of Decorative Arts will again feature a special Appraisal Fair similar to what “Antiques Roadshow” will do when it visits here July 19.
Museum director Amy Frierson said the popular PBS show has increased interest in antiques and has boosted attendance at the Chattanooga show, now in its 34th year.
“Two years ago when we introduced the Appraisal Fair, we had a tremendous turnout,” she said. “Last year it was just huge.”
The Chattanooga show will be a good preliminary event for “Antiques Roadshow’s” visit, Mrs. Frierson said.
“It is an obvious tie-in, and people are very excited about them coming.”
The fair will take place on Saturday only during the three-day event.
The antiques show itself will feature more than two dozen dealers from around the country displaying everything from furniture to paintings to glassware to rugs. They will not appraise jewelry, Mrs. Frierson said.
The show has a new manager in Robert F. James, owner of Armacost Antiques Show, out of Washington, D.C.
“We are very excited about the new manager, Bob James,” Mrs. Frierson said. “The quality of the dealers and the quality of the merchandise they represent is quite impressive.”
