Fire damaged a metal fabrication business in the Sale Creek community at 15425 Dayton Pike this weekend, according to Hamilton County Emergency Services spokeswoman Amy Maxwell.
The fire at Breezin Metal Works was reported about 5:30 p.m. Saturday by a motorist who saw smoke coming from the 16,000-square-foot building, she said.
The Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded and immediately called for assistance from the Sequoyah and Soddy-Daisy volunteer fire departments, Ms. Maxwell said.
The building formerly was an ice cream creamery for McDonald Farms and the fire was concentrated in a 900-square-foot cooler and firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading throughout the structure, she said.
The cause remains under investigation, but officials confirmed the fire started in the cooler area, Ms. Maxwell said.
