NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Seniors Alex Anderson and Laura Hall combined for 47 points today as the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga defeated Western Carolina 71-59 to win the Southern Conference women’s basketball tournament for the third year in a row.
The Lady Mocs (28-3) led by 11 at halftime and had to hold off a Western Carolina rally midway through the second half to earn the championship and accompanying automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The win improves UTC’s record to 18-0 all-time when the conference tournament is played in the Charleston area, with the last two titles coming at the North Charleston Coliseum.
It was the Lady Mocs’ third win over the Catamounts (25-8) this season. Anderson had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Hall finished with a season-high 22 points and four assists.
