Kitchen fire damages Wisdom Street home

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a kitchen fire shortly after 2 p.m. today, according to a fire department statement.

Glen Green told firefighters that he was heating up some grease on the stove when he left the kitchen to answer the phone, the statement read. The home is in the 1500 block of Wisdom Street.

Mr. Green said he must have lost track of time and returned to the kitchen to see the stove engulfed in flames. He tried to get a garden hose inside, but was unsuccessful, officials were told.

Battalion Chief Mike Knox said the firefighters quickly put the fire out in the kitchen, the statement reported, but the flames that had spread into the attic took more time to extinguish.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire will be ruled as accidental, he said.
