Robert Dorn
Robert W. Dorn, 89, a resident of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2008, in a local hospital.
A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Mr. Dorn had been a longtime resident of Williamsville, N.Y. and Bradenton, Fla., prior to moving to Chattanooga eight years ago. He had been a resident of Hickory Valley for the past five years.
Mr. Dorn retired in 1980 after working many years as a manager for Dunlop Tire Co. He was a past Master of the Danforth New Mason Lodge in upper New York State and a past Patron of the Central City Chapter of the O.E.S. in Syracuse, N.Y.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Helen Evans Dorn, of Chattanooga; three children, Carol M. Nelson, of Oxford, Pa., Robert Dorn Jr., of Williamsville, N.Y., and Diane Nelson, of Chattanooga; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Skaneatles, N.Y.

Virginia Rogers Fox, 78, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Earl and Agnes Rogers and was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Ben Rogers and Harold Rogers.
Virginia retired from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department and was a member of the Lookout Valley Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Willie Fox; stepson, Dennis Fox, of Birmingham, Ala.; six siblings, Melvin Rogers, of Charlotte, N.C., Evelyn Humble, of Chattanooga, Janice Gill, of Wildwood, Ga., Earlene Lynn, of Rossville, Rex Rogers, East Ridge, Eslie Rogers, of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip Anderson officiating.
Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Earleene "Maw Brooks" Gill, 87, of Ooltewah, passed away Monday, March 10, 2008, after a long illness.
She was a member of Honestville Baptist Church and retired from DuPont after 25 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Brooks; son, Bill Brooks; two grandsons, Randall Nutt and Eddie Jinnette; and stepgrandson, Barry Gill.

Michael Goforth
E. Michael Goforth died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at his home following a long courageous battle against cancer. He was 60.
Mr. Goforth had recently moved to Murfreesboro to be near his family. He was a member of the Church of Christ faith.
In 2003, Mr. Goforth retired following a 31-year career in the Tennessee health insurance industry. He worked in the field of marketing communications with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee in Chattanooga and EQUICOR, a joint venture of HCA and The Equitable, in Nashville. He was a member of the local insurance professional associations The Chattanooga Association of Health Underwriters and the Chattanooga chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors where he served on the organization's board of directors. Before joining the insurance industry, Mr. Goforth worked at the Chattanooga News-Free Press, the Shelbyville Times-Gazette and the Rutherford Courier.
The Chattanooga native graduated from Brainerd High School (Class of 1966). He was also a proud graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and served as Summer and Fall 1969 Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper, The Sidelines. Mr. Goforth continued to be active in the Kappa Sigma Alumni Association and was a member of the Blue Raider Athletic Association.
Mr. Goforth is survived by his children, Cassie Goforth (Gary) Patton and Jason (Sarah) Goforth, of Murfreesboro; a brother, Gary Goforth, of Chattanooga; and a grandson, Michael Ray Patton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Mary Katherine Goforth, of Chattanooga.

Marilyn Sue Castleman Holcomb, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at her home with her family by her side.
She graduated from City High School in 1956. She worked for Memorial Center for Health at the East Brainerd YMCA where she was an arthritis instructor in water aerobics. She was a former member at Central Baptist Church Woodmore and a very active member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Harvest Sunday School Class.
Marilyn was the daughter of the late Fred and Helen Phillips Castleman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Holcomb.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Lee Holcomb Ellis and her husband, Brad Ellis, and granddaughter, Hannah Noel Ellis, of Canton, Ga.

Jennie Elizabeth Holmes McGaha, 82, of Hixson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2008.
Jennie was born on Feb. 1, 1926, in McRoberts, Ky., to William and Della Holmes. She grew up in Dayton, Tenn., and lived most of her married life in the Tennessee Valley. Mrs. McGaha was an active member of Red Bank Baptist Church and the Hope Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Columbus A. McGaha.

Pierre Wagner
Pierre Rodolphe Wagner, 82, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in Hixson, from an extended illness.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Frederic Houston Wagner and Mary Blanche Williams; a grandson, Wells Frederic Wagner; a granddaughter, Mary Elisa Wagner, Birmingham, Ala.; and three nieces who live in Switzerland.
Pierre, a native of Switzerland, was born in 1925 in Aigle, a small city well known for its castle and the quality of its wine. After studying in Lausanne and at the Federal Polytechnic Institute in Zurich, he was graduated as an Agricultural Engineer. He specialized in Entomology, sharing his scientific career with teaching courses at a school for agriculture. Later, being selected as a delegate of the International Farm Youth Exchange Program, he traveled and lectured extensively in the United States for a period of six months. Upon his return to Switzerland, he spent one year in England to perfect his knowledge of farming methods.
In 1955, he returned to the United States as an immigrant. For a few years, he was engaged in farming. However, he broadened his interests and began a career in teaching: He took courses in French and German literature at Chapel Hill and at Boulder University. This led him to accept the position of Foreign Language Instructor at Brevard College, North Carolina, where he was employed for four years. During the summer months, Pierre was dedicated to studying or leading excursions in the surrounding mountains.
In 1960 he was married to Sarah Caroline Leagon of Statesville, N.C. The couple moved to Chattanooga, where he taught French and German at The McCallie School. His activities also included coaching soccer and cross-country teams. His retirement in 1989 was saddened by the sudden death of his spouse in 1991. In the following years, he pursued his interests in Arts and Humanities. The final years of his life were spent in Hixson, where he had resided since 1960. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He had served in the Swiss Army.
A memorial service will be Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel, 601 Ashland Terrace.

CLEVELAND -- Marianne Helen Girardot Moisan, 79, died Monday, March 10, 2008, in an area health care facility.
Mrs. Moisan was born in Erie, Pa., on June 11, 1928 to Francis and Katherine Rogan Girardot. She had resided in Detroit, Mich.; Toronto, Ontario; Marathon, Ontario. In September of 1953 she married Joseph Gerard Rolland Moisan, and moved to Cleveland, Tenn., in 1954. She received her Associate's Degree in Data Processing and Respiratory Therapy from Cleveland State Community College, and worked as a respiratory therapist at several area healthcare facilities.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include three son, Peter Moisan, Raleigh, N.C., Richard Moisan, Blaine, Tenn., and Paul Moisan, Atlanta; daughter, Patti Moisan Horne, Englewood, Tenn.; grandsons, Lucas Moisan and David Moisan; granddaughters, Caitlin Horne and Sara Horne.
Memorial services will be held Friday, March 14, 2008, at 4 p.m. at St. Therese of Liseux. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Church.

CLARKSVILLE -- Pastor John O. Whitmore Jr., 63, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at his residence.
He was born April 11, 1944 in Nashville. The son of John O. Whitmore Sr. and Vesta Mae Keessee. He was the husband of Billie Dykes Whitmore.
He was the pastor of Beth-El (House of God) in Lyles, Tenn. He worked in the Maintenance Department at Clarksville Transit System. He retired from the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Dykes Whitmore; children, Tracey D. Whitmore-Joshua, Jerry H. Whitmore, all of Clarksville, Tenn.; four grandchildren.

He was born in Walker County, Ga., to the late Horton and Mary Alice George Abbott, and he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Hill Abbott; and brothers, Fred and William Abbott.
Survivors include his brothers, Ralph and Bennett Abbott, both of Rossville; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Ola and Barney Gilbert, of Alabama, Myrtle and Henry Abbott, of Flintstone, Mary Adkins, of Rossville; special niece, Nancy Adkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2008 in the chapel with the Rev. Mac Stringer officiating.
Interment will follow in Little River Cemetery in Mentone, Ala.
Family will receive friends after 4 p.m. today and all day Thursday.

Larry Behner
ROSSVILLE -- Larry Eugene Behner, 57, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008.
A native of Cumberland County, North Carolina, he had formerly lived in Orlando, Fla., and had lived in the North Georgia area for the last eight years. He was an Army veteran having served two tours, one in Korea and one in Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Behner and Jean Cathers Behner.
He is survived by sister, Patricia Inez Wilson; and a niece, Katey LuAnn Featherman, both of Stroudsburg, Pa.; and a nephew, William Featherman, of Orlando, Fla. He is also survived by long-time friends, William Crocker, of Rossville, Judy MacUmber, of Stroudsburg and Renita Parker, of Rossville.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2008, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

TRENTON -- Irene Brewer, 88, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008.
Mrs. Brewer was a member of the First Baptist Church of Trenton, Ga. and longtime resident of Trenton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. "Slim" Brewer; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Frances and Thomas Smartt; grandson, James Martin Sloan; five sisters and one brother.
She is survived by two brothers, Orville Marrow, of Warren Mich., and Berlin Marrow, of Hartsille, Ala.; three granddaughters and their husbands, Paulette and Ken Tullis, of Ider, Ala., Sandra and Gary Koch, of East Ridge, and Angela and Gordon Geralds, of Ooltewah; nine great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. EDT Thursday in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Cantrell officiating.
Interment will be in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

RINGGOLD -- Eugenia "Jeanie" Baxter Hawes, 78, departed this life Monday, March 10, 2008.
She was born in Eton, Ga., to the late Luke Crittenden and Molly Middleton Baxter, and was preceded in death by several brothers, and sisters.
Jeanie was a member of First Baptist Church of Ringgold, and was the Battlefield Woman's Golf Club Champion for seven years.
Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, Roy Hawes; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Pam Hawes; daughter, Lynn Hawes; granddaughter, Christi Hawes, all of Ringgold; brothers, John Baxter, of Ringgold, Bud Baxter, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister, Doris Harris, of Ringgold; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Ringgold with Dr. Kerry Bunn and Dr. Dan Whittaker officiating.
Interment will follow in Anderson Cemetery.

LaFAYETTE -- Gloria Nash Howard, formerly of LaFayette, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, in Bakersfield, Calif., one week before her 79th birthday.
Gloria was born in Atlanta, the youngest of seven children in a wonderfully close-knit family. Her career path as a social worker involved opportunities to serve in various areas including the Child Welfare Division for Fulton County, Georgia; Homes of St. Marks Adoption Agency in Houston, Texas; Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Fort Oglethorpe; Moccasin Bend Psychiatric Hospital in Chattanooga; and Northwest Georgia Mental Health Center in Fort Oglethorpe. An accomplished professional, she made a lasting impression with her bright humor, warm personality and enormous capacity for caring.
Gloria is survived by her sisters, Arlene Hargrove and Gwen Hames, of Atlanta; her four children, Charles Comfort and his wife Maxine, of Taft, Calif., George Comfort and his wife, Jenni, of Elkton, Md., Jim Comfort and his wife, Denise, of Washington, D.C., and Mary Newman and her husband, Dennis, of Katy, Texas; and by the eight grandchildren who were the light of her life, Tyler, Tucker, Corey, Cameron, Chase, Joshua, Kayli and Greyson.

Johnny Ritchie
RINGGOLD -- Johnny C.R. Ritchie, 64, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 10, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Ritchie was born in Chattanooga, to John and Zora Ritchie. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, a U.S. Marine veteran, and retired from TVA after 32 years of employment. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Mary Ritchie; children, Johnna Eldridge, of East Ridge, Carla Bynum, of Ringgold, Ga., and Johnny "Jay" Ritchie Jr., of Birchwood; five grandchildren, Justin Ritchie, Rob Eldridge, Ericka Bynum, Hannah Eldridge and Kylie Ritchie; sisters, Evidene Tatum, of Chattanooga and Janice Watson, of Canton, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Annie Touchstone Vaughn; son, Brian Vaughn; and brothers, Arville, Alton and Charles Vaughn.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cenaida Merchan Vaughn, of Ringgold; sister-in-law, Katherine Vaughn, of Ringgold; brother-in-law, Nelson Merchan, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Omar Merchan and Edgar Merchan, both of Bogota, Columbia and Arnaldo Merchan, of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.
