Body found in Chickamauga Lake

Staff Report

A body found today in Chickamauga Lake may be that of a man who committed suicide last month by jumping from the Thrasher Bridge, a fire department official said.

Chattanooga firefighters and police officers were called to Chickamauga Dam shortly after 4 p.m. today when a TVA worker spotted a body floating next to the dam, said Bruce Garner, Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman.

On board the Chattanooga Fire Department’s fire-rescue boat, firefighters and paramedics with Hamilton County EMS pulled the body out of the lake and transported it to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Division of the Chattanooga Police Department believe this could be the suicide victim who jumped to his death from Thrasher Bridge the morning of Feb. 11, 2008, Mr. Garner said.

The victim's identity will have to be confirmed by the medical examiner's office, he said.
