I’ll be your host for the next several days as I share my experiences at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin Texas. I’ll be chasing down and catching up with some of Chattanooga’s own, who believe it or not, are out here in Texas representin’ the ‘noog at one of the biggest music festivals in the country. It’s like Riverbend times 10. I’ll be hanging out with Chris Ware, former Chattanoogan and now full-time pro guitarist. Our own Leticia Wolf will be doing a few shows and I hear that the irrepressible Up With The Jones is doing a show somewhere.
Well I’m sitting here in the Dallas Ft./ Worth airport (THE best large airport in the country, or so the signs say) waiting for my fight to Austin, enjoying an outrageously expensive Budweiser and the convergence of two alarming trends on my mind:

The ever shrinking airplane seat.

The ever expanding American butt.
These two things are not mutually compatible. I paid good money for the 18.5 inches of real estate my butt has to occupy for several hours and I get cranky when someone else’s bulk spills over into MY precious seat space. And then there is the ongoing Battle of the Armrest - a silent game of wits and subtle moves designed to get the best position on that 2-inch strip of plastic.
OK, enough of that. Back to the topic at hand. Before I left I had a conversation with a Chattanoogan who’s NOT going to SXSW, not because he doesn’t rate but because he just got back from 10 days in England on tour with The Black Diamond Heavies.
