Sammy George leaving Clear Channel Chattanooga

Sammy George is stepping down as Clear Channel Chattanooga market manager and general manager of WUSY-FM 100.7, he said.

Mr. George said he made the decision to resign after receiving an offer to become vice president of new development with Northwest Georgia Bank. He has accepted the offer.

“We’ve accomplished most of our goals, and this opportunity came along and it is time for another challenge,” Mr. George said.

Under his leadership, WUSY has earned nine Country Music Association Station of the Year awards, one Academy of Country Music Station of the Year honor and has been the top-rated station in the Chattanooga market for 18 consecutive years, according to a news release.

Mr. George said no firm date has been set for when he will leave Clear Channel, but he anticipates it will be in early April.

According to Clay Hunnicutt, regional vice president of programming, no other personnel changes are expected any time soon.

“Everything is business as usual,” he said.
