Virginia Leone Smith Bellenfant, 84, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008, in a local health care facility.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, William and Euda Smith; and her husband, G. W. Bellenfant; also two brothers and one sister.
Leone was a member of Eastside Church of Christ of Shelbyville, Tenn., and the retired manager of Edwards Interiors of Shelbyville.
Leone is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Jack) Brownfield, of Cleveland, Tenn.; and one son, William Larry Bellenfant, of Chattanooga. She has two grandsons, W. Jackson (Kim) Brownfield and Jeff T. (Laurie) Brownfield, both of Cleveland. Also five great-grandchildren, Kacy, Jackson, Carter, Lauren and Laiken Brownfield, all of Cleveland. Also one brother, Powell (Marie) Smith, of Shelbyville; and two sisters, Lorene Williams, of Maryville, Tenn. and Juanita Edwards, of Shelbyville.
A service for Leone will be Sunday, March 16, 2008, at 3 p.m. CDT at Hillcrest Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with visitation at Hillcrest Funeral home today, March 15, 2008, from 3 to 7 p.m.
Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Shelbyville.
Active pallbearers will be Glenn Williams, Jerry Williams, Terry Smith, Jackson Brownfield, Jeff Brownfield, Billy Joe Harris, Carter Brownfield and Jackson Brownfield Jr.

Melvin E. Brown, 50 of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Melton Brown Sr.; one brother, Melton Earl Brown Jr.; sister, Linda Mae Roberts.
Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Hobert Foster, of Chattanooga; nieces and nephews, Misty O'Rear, Greg O'Rear, Earl and Brandy Brown, Lamar Foster, Niki Carroll, Vickie and Stacy Ferguson, Carrie Parsons, Mickey Roberts, Cristy Gentry, Rebecca and Jeff Cameron; several great-nieces and nephews, and ex-wife Leta Brown.

Elizabeth Clark
Elizabeth "Betsy" Alden Clark, 50, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at a local hospital.
Born in Chattanooga, she spent two years in Sweden before graduating Central High School in 1975. She married James Clark at the age of 18 and gave birth to daughter, Audry nine years later.
Betsy spent a number of years in responsible retail positions including the Oreck sales outlet. In recent years she enjoyed working with her father-in-law in the rental business.
She was most happy cooking, baking and being with family. She has also enjoyed travel, gardening, hiking, canoeing and most recently attending First-Centenary United Methodist Church.
Betsy is survived by her loving family of husband, James Clark; father and mother-in-law, Dale Clark Sr. and Shirley Clark; daughter, Audry Elizabeth Clark; sister, Victoria Alden Love, of Tulsa; and parents, John and Irene Alden.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Alden.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. David Harr officiating.
The family will receive friends for visitation from noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the North Chapel.

Richard Edward Davis, 74, of Ooltewah, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008, in a local hospital.
He was the son of the late B.M. and Maude Davis and was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Davis Jr.; and two brothers, Obie Davis and Dennis "Butch" Davis.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the 82nd Airborne.

Raymond Richard Gaber, 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 14, 2008.
He was the son of the late Frank and Barbara Gaber. He retired from John Deere after 36 years as a Manufacturer's Representative and prior to his death he had worked at Kohl's Department Store on Gunbarrel Road. Mr. Gaber was a deacon partner and usher at Ridgedale Baptist Church and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Gaber, of Ooltewah; three daughters, Cindy Craig and her husband, Michael Craig, of Rossville, Pam Goodman and her husband, Bob Goodman, of BonAire, Ga., Vicky Creekmore and her husband Paul Creekmore, of Woodstock, Ga.; son, Randy Gaber and his wife, Sherry Gaber, of Ooltewah; seven grandchildren, John Craig, Chris Craig, Rick Goodman, Beth Goodman, Kelly Brewer, Ryan Gaber and Jonathan Gaber; six great-grandchildren; brother, Don Gaber and his wife, Vandra Gaber, of Cleveland, Tenn.; sister, Laverna Hoppe and her husband, Wayne Hoppe, of Waukesha, Wis.; several nieces and nephews.

James Claude "Tater" Smith, 86, lifelong resident of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at his home.
He retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. with over 20 years of service. He was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Smith was a WWII veteran and Purple Heart recipient. He was a three time recipient of The French Des Croix De Guerre, Des TOE. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and a member of the Battle of Normandy Foundation.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Mae "Corky" Smith; two brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include his sons, Dale Smith, of Dalton, Ga., and David L. (Janie) Smith of, Ooltewah; family friend, Winona Barnett, of Chattanooga; sisters, Ruby Webb, Fannie Tallent and Robbie Jennings, all of Chattanooga; brother, John Smith, of Chattanooga; one granddaughter, Amber (Brent) Dilbeck, of Chattanooga; one great-grandchild, Hagen Dilbeck, of Chattanooga; two stepgranddaughters; and one stepgrandson.

Donald Whaley
Donald Eugene Whaley, 77, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008, in a local hospital.
Mr. Whaley was born May 11, 1930 in Bradley County, son of the late Horace Whaley and Mamie Conner Whaley Rominger. He was a graduate of Bradley Central High School and attended the University of Chattanooga. He was past president of Hickory Valley Civitan Club, one of the founding members of Tyner Youth Athletics Association, and a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church and the James Bible Class. He retired from DuPont in 1991 after 43 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Robbie Faye Whaley; sons, Donald Victor Whaley and wife, Joyce, Michael David Whaley and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Reagan, Grant, John and Eva Whaley, all of Chattanooga; sisters, Barbara Posey and husband, Gene, of Cleveland, and Betty Bratton and husband, Bob, of Chattanooga.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday at Brainerd Hills Baptist Church with Dr. Richard Mason and Dr. John Barber officiating.

ROSSVILLE -- Beatrice Pauline Bray Cordell, 75, passed away Friday, March 14, 2008.
She was born in Dekalb County, Ala., on March 12, 1933, to the late Luther and Minnie Bray, but has lived in the Rossville area for most of her life. She was a member of Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church and her passion in life was spending time with her grandson.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Cordell; brother, W.C. Bray; and grandson, Greg Thomas Meredith.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Scott Meredith and Brenda and Ronnie Henderson, all of Rossville; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Linda Cordell, of Chattanooga Valley; and one grandson, Scott Meredith III.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, March 17, 2008, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel.
Burial will follow in Grand Center Cemetery.

Joe Garner
ROSSVILLE -- Joe Garner, 81, our beloved husband and father, moved into the presence of Jesus on Thursday, March 13, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Garner; and great-grandson, Aiden Martin.
He was a Christian, and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army.
Joe began his career as a salesman with The Hajoca Corporation in Chattanooga. Later, working with his sons, he formed his own mechanical contracting company, The Joe Garner Co. Inc., and then eventually moved into general contracting in the North Georgia area.
He was a self-made man with a wonderful spirit, a great sense of humor and a generous heart.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy; a son, Jim Garner (Rita), of Ringgold; daughters, Pamper Garner Crangle (Tommy), of Signal Mountain and Kim Combs, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Jeff Garner (Traci), Jacob Garner, Leigh Garner Martin (Butch), Tyler Garner Howell and Kati Howell; great-grandchildren, Caroline and Campbell Garner.

RINGGOLD -- John James Ormsby, 64, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, March 13, 2008, at a local hospital.
A resident of the North Georgia area for the past 37 years he was formerly of Garden Grove, Calif. John was a sales rep for asphalt mixing equipment for 17 years, a partner of Onco Industries for seven years and owner of Ormsby Industrial for two years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Robert Ormsby Sr. and Catherine Klein Ormsby Perkins; and brother, William "Bill" Ormsby Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Feinauer Ormsby, of Ringgold; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Lee Clemmons, of Chattanooga, Lisa and Mike Scott, of Ringgold, Jana and Aaron Denton, of Ringgold, and Julie and Mitchell Jarvis, of Ringgold; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Willard Stubblefield
RINGGOLD -- Willard James Stubblefield, 62, passed away Friday, March 14, 2008, after a battle with cancer.
Mr. Stubblefield, a descendant of one of Catoosa County's pioneer families, lived his entire life on the land his ancestors settled in 1837, and worked on the family farm. Willard was a faithful member of Ringgold United Methodist Church, WFC Sunday School Class, RUMC Men's Club, the Council on Ministries, RUMC 49's and the Catoosa County Historical Society. He was formerly a volunteer at Old Stone Church, which his family helped organize and build in 1850.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Velma Morgan Stubblefield; grandparents, W.A. and Myrtle (Magill) Stubblefield, Leonard and Mattie (Anderson) Morgan; and nephew, David Douglas Nofsinger.
Survivors are sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Doug Nofsinger, Tunnel Hill; brother, Lonnie Stubblefield, Ringgold; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ringgold United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Purrington and the Rev. Michael Morton officiating.
Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Gardens.

SUMMERVILLE -- Roger Wheeler Williams, 51, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, after an extended illness.
He was born on March 24, 1956 to Ethel Fletcher Williams and the late Paul Williams. Preceding him in death was brother, Louis Williams and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Fletcher and Mr. and Mrs. William B. Williams.
He is survived by His wife of 27 years, Sally Cook Williams; daughter, Anna Lee Williams; brother, Larry (Yeardley) Williams; sister, Rena Williams (Keith) Walsh, of Philadelphia, Pa.; nieces and nephews, Ryan, Drew and Kidder Williams and Casey Anne and William Paul Walsh, Elizabeth, Jeffrey and Sutton Connelly, Jessica Cook Hale and Holly Blakely and many friends.
Mr. Williams was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rome and attended Summerville Presbyterian Church and Cloudland Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Berry Academy and worked as a professional electrical and construction contractor for over 30 years.
Friends will be received at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday, March 16.
A graveside service will follow at Cloudland Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 4 p.m. presided over by Pastor Dr. Roger Kvam.
