Shooting suspect free on bond

A man suspected of shooting another during an argument in East Chattanooga last Monday remains free on bond, according to authorities.

Darrius Lamont Higgins, 36, of a Walker Street address, surrendered Thursday to his attorney, was booked by authorities and released on bond, according to officers at the Hamilton County Jail.

Mr. Higgins is charged with aggravated assault stemming from a shooting that occurred when he and another man were walking between the 1900 and 2200 blocks of Jackson Street about 3 p.m. on March 10.

The victim was shot in the leg and several bullets struck nearby buildings, officials said.

Jailers said Mr. Higgins is scheduled to appear in Hamilton County General Sessions Court on April 9.
