I love my job at Traffic Administrative Division of the Public Works Department for the City of Chattanooga

Is it the company? yes

Your coworkers? yes

A great boss? yes

I work in the Traffic Administrative Division of the Public Works Department for the City of Chattanooga.

I consider myself a public servant and I just love serving the public to the best of my ability!

I have been a city employee for 17 years.

My boss works non-stop to solve traffic problems throughout the city limits of Chattanooga.

Our office is responsible for saving lives. Whether it be using traffic cameras at dangerous intersections and high accident locations or coming up with locations for roundabouts, to slowing traffic down in neighborhoods with speed cushions. Some people like these ideas and some people don't, which is their right. But I know that all these efforts work on slowing traffic down, saving lives and in the long run will save the city money.

My co-workers work through in all types of weather conditions to make our streets safer, whether it be in marking the pavement so that we can all see to drive in the correct lane, timing the signals so that we don't sit unnecessarily at a red light or covering a meter downtown for an event or counting vehicles to determine a traffic pattern.

We even make sure that if a contractor is having to cut a street that he has the proper traffic control and we determine detours for the contractor. I issue press releases to the news media so that the news can get out to the citizens and drivers that may be affected by this closure.

We have staff members that go through every traffic accident report, everyday that is generated due to an accident on a city street and this staff person, enters this accident location into a data base, so that we can use this information to make the streets even more safe.

We work closely with our fine police department and most all city services.

Through out my career with the city, I have dealt with many different public servants and citizens, in many different circumstances and I have enjoyed every day as a public servant. I take great pride in helping the citizens of Chattanooga to the best of my ability. This is a great city that we live in and I am proud to have lived here all of my 51 years.

Thank you.
